Overview of Position

The Food Safety & Quality Systems Specialist I role is an onsite position located at the Innovation Lab located in Owings Mills, Maryland. The role is responsible for capturing sensory, analytical, and physical data to help drive the manufacture of products that meet or exceed client Quality expectations. This person collaborates with other departments to help drive consistency in product manufacturing and ensures that products meet the Quality needs and expectations of Medifast customers.

II. Job Responsibilities

• Evaluate all products using approved sensory and analytical methods to ensure conformance to specification.

• Track and release all approved products in communication with the distribution centers.

• Track and release requested products from Q hold.

• Maintain retention sample inventory in Innovation Center.

• For analysis, record and report results to supervisor.

• Manage Raw Material shelf-life extension program.

• Travel to provide support in Product Trials and Commercialization activities.

• Participate in professional development training to drive professional Growth.

• Support continuous improvement efforts within the lab.

• Complete any additional tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

III. Scope

This individual is responsible for working cross departmentally primarily with Product development, regulatory personnel, Packaging Engineering, and co-packers. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills along with verbal and written communications. A strong candidate should be a self-starter and can perform tasks with minimal supervision. Strong teamwork and project management skills.

IV. Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree in Food Science and Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related science field or 5 years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance discipline.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Team oriented.

• Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Ability to travel up to 25% of time.
