Food Quality Control/Catering Manager
Position Description
Position: Food Quality Control/Catering Manager
Reports to: School Nutrition Director
Terms of Employment: 12 months
Pay Grade: Grade 64N
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Nature of Work
Work with schools to ensure standardized recipes are followed to recipe specification.
Train managers and cooks on new recipes to ensure highest quality of food is served to students.
Provide regular support to SN Managers on recipe troubleshooting, to ensure recipes are yielding accurately.
Work with SN Managers to ensure meals are displayed on serving lines in the most appealing manner
Work with the menu planning committee to revamp recipes based on students' feedback and acceptance of menu options provided.
Hold quarterly menu training with groups of SN Assistants during the school year.
Hold annual recipe training with managers at back to school training.
Assist with special projects (promotions and events) - NSLW, NSBW, National Nutrition Month, Annual Food Show, Farm to School Week etc
Hold special "Limited Time Offer" events at Middle and High Schools semi-annually.
Cater events for school activities as needed (Family Literacy Graduation, Board Events etc)
Assist with marketing of the school meal programs through social media post.
All other duties and responsibilities that may be required by the program director.
Education and Experience
A minimum of HS Diploma
Minimum of 5 years of catering & cooking experience for large groups or relevant educational training as a chef
Experience managing employees
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):
Servsafe Certification
Valid NC Driver's License

Physical Requirements
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Food Quality Control/Catering Manager job classification within the School Nutrition Department of Craven County Schools.
Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 30 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
Stand for six continuous hours
Stoop, squat, kneel and/or bend in a manner that allows the palms to touch the floor (as is cleaning of baseboards, equipment, etc.)
Bend from a standing position in a manner that allows the palms to touch the knees (as in washing of pots and pans in deep sinks and cleaning milk boxes)
Bend from the waist in a standing position with arms outstretched for an extended period of time (as in service of food)
Twist, turn, and/or stretch from side to side that allows the shoulders to be perpendicular to the hips (as in mopping, sweeping, stocking shelves, removing food from ovens, etc.)
Lift, carry, and/or support 30 pounds from shoulder level to above the head (as in placing food in ovens, freezers, stockroom shelves, etc.)
Perform duties requiring non-repetitive motions with hands and wrists (as in slicing, dicing, washing, counting money, writing, scrubbing, scraping, etc.)
