POSITION PURPOSE

The Food Program Coordinator is responsible for the success and growth of our food distribution programs and food insecurity reduction programs, which includes the planning and coordination of our Collaborative Farm Share (CSA) and our clinically-integrated food delivery program, the Good Food Box. The manager is to ensure that food is sourced responsibly, stored safely, and distributed in a timely and effective manner.

The manager is the face of our Farm Share program and will create relationships with farmers and customers throughout the community. The manager will ensure that policies and practices are implemented in alignment with organizational goals and values. The coordinator will monitor budgets and track expenditures, submit timely, detailed reporting and project related financial administration under the guidance of the Manager of Farm Programming. The position will report to the Manager of Farm Programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees and expands the St. Joe's food distribution programs such as our Farm Share and Good Food Box, to increase food access, increase revenue for local farms, and grow a vibrant community of members from diverse backgrounds. Includes the following program-specific responsibilities.

Develops and implements innovative marketing and communication strategies to increase Farm Share membership, with special focus on increasing participation in underserved communities.

Oversees partnerships with local farmers, including leadership in collaborative crop planning, weekly communications about produce availability and purchase decisions, and support and mentorship of local farmers in order to both procure the best product as well as support local farmers as they grow their businesses.

Oversees financial systems both for paying farmers as well as taking payment from members. Includes timely communication with all parties and ability to develop and follow a budget.

Provides excellent customer service and creates a vibrant community hub where customers and patients feel welcome and supported.

Creates strong education resources and experiences for Farm Share members and other community members in collaboration with the Education Coordinator.

Communicates clearly with members through the weekly newsletter and in-person.

Ensures that food safe practices are maintained at all times, according to Farm's food safety plan.

Coordinates with the farm-based Community Health Worker to serve at risk populations to reduce food insecurity.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values and policies of SJMH.

Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education: High school diploma.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree with preference given to backgrounds in logistics, sustainable food systems, or community health. Commensurate experience with food purchasing, customer service, and retail operations acceptable.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience with large-scale food purchasing, CSA coordinator, farming or running programs.

Certification/Licensure:NA

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of food purchasing, storage and distribution

Great customer service skills

Ability to create and manage a budget and multiple types of payment modalities.

Good at public speaking and communication via oral, written and digital avenues

Experience managing complex systems

Strong knowledge of online sales platforms

Strong knowledge of local food, seasonal cooking, and nutrition
