The Flow Cytometry Technologist is responsible for efficient and accurate performance of flow cytometry testing, following established procedures, and maintaining proper quality control. This position requires the ability to perform the duties of the Lab Assistant and Medical Technologist, possess expert knowledge in the maintenance and use of a flow cytometer, and expert knowledge of assay performance in order to assure quality data. The Flow Cytometry Technologist III must have expert knowledge of disease types and be able to add tests using laboratory algorithms or from the instructions of a supervisor or pathologist.
Maintains and uses the flow cytometer to generate data.
Analyzes 8 color flow cytometry using Infinicyte and Kaluza software.
Maintains and operates equipment used to prepare samples for analytical testing.
Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Prepares specimens and paperwork prior to testing; troubleshoots and documents unexpected specimen issues.
Produces Quality System metrics.
Documents all CAPA when test systems deviate.
Performs routine procedures including recording sample and patient information.
Communicates with medical, clinical, and technical staff within the medical facility and other laboratories concerning specimen inquiries, problems, and investigations in a timely manner according to established laboratory procedures.
Previous professional experience in high complexity testing in hands-on flow cytometry field with knowledge of leukemia and lymphoma is required.
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field required.
NCA CLSp (Hematology or Histology) or other state license as a clinical laboratory professional certification required, MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), ASCP [QCYM] certification preferred.
Requires previous experience in a flow cytometry lab with demonstrated communication skills with a hematopathologist.
Requires a high degree of care and attention with strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols.
Technical knowledge of specimen types.
Demonstrated skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Visual acuity (including color discrimination) and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail.
Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents.
