DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION The flow cytometry technologist is responsible for performing analytical cytometry examinations, quality control, instrument maintenance, testing validations, and other functions, while implementing the hospital and laboratory missions, goals and objectives. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) Experience: Three years of#experience in an approved laboratory. Education and Training: BS degree in Medical Technology or related science. Completion of special training in flow cytometry preferred. License, Certification


Registration:


Medical Laboratory Scientist certified through ASCP or CLIA approved equivalent education and training giving eligibility to perform high-complexity laboratory testing. Specialist in Cytometry, SCYM(ASCP) preferred. Other Requirements: Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.# Teach medical technology students how to process specimens and answer computer related questions.# Responsible for care and accuracy in collection and labeling specimens.# Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.# Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time and under stress, to ensure against errors.# Above average manual dexterity.# Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing, and reading.# Knowledge of HIS and LIS.# Assorted laboratory analyzers and equipment appropriate to scope of position and dependent upon current technology.
