Job Skills / Requirements Summary/Objective
The floor technician position performs custodial work in offices, warehouses, industrial areas, medical facilities, and other building interiors and/or exteriors with a focus on floor maintenance and care.

Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and vacuuming.
Care for different types of floors (including but not limited to carpet, tile, VCT, wood, concrete) by hand and/or use of power equipment.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
Gather and empty trash.
Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, by spreading snow melting chemicals.
Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as sporting events, banquets and meetings.
Job assignments can vary from facility to facility with the possibility of transfer.
Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
Job requires extended periods of walking and/or standing.
Knowledge of floor care, floor cleaning procedures, and floor cleaning equipment.
Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including AIDS and Hepatitis B Virus. The noise level is usually moderate. Reviews will be conducted on a 90-day, 6-month and annual basis the first year of employment. All jobs are considered temporary in nature contingent on employees work performance and/or ability to meet the above requirements. Physical Demands The physical demands described here present those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear. The employee must lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This may be either a full-time or part-time position, with varying days and hours. Weekend and overnight work is also necessary for some shifts. Required Education and Experience High school diploma and/or GED, previous experience in a janitorial setting and floor care experience is preferred. Work Authorization/Security Clearance Some locations may require additional health requirements and/or background and security clearance.
