The Street Transportation Department has a vacancy for a Floodplain Manager (Principal Engineering Technician). This position involves performing challenging engineering duties related to flood mitigation and advises firms engaged in various technical engineering reviews. Responsibilities include reviewing plans regarding grading and drainage, paving, storm water, concrete, plats, water, and sewer plans in accordance with department policy. Work is performed under the supervision of a Civil Engineer III or another supervisor who reviews work based on inspections, codes and compliance.
The position also includes handling and investigating complaints related to flooding, developing a mitigation plan after coordinating with street transportation operations and maintenance staff, and reporting the plan to upper management in a timely manner. It also involves responding to residents regarding the outcome of the findings.
SALARY
Pay Range: $61,526.40 - $110,510.40 annually.
Hiring Range: $61,526.40 - $95,451.20 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work, including three years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience (or one year of experience at the level of Chief Engineering Technician, or Chief Drafting Technician).
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Experience in preparing design scopes and negotiating consultant fee proposals.
Experience coordinating or managing all or portions of a capital project and/or budgets.
Experience creating reports and documents using MS Word and Excel.
Experience that demonstrates an ability to work effectively with deadlines.
Experience in reading and interpreting Civil Engineering and storm drain plans.
Experience demonstrating an understanding of floodplain management-related policies.
Experience and understanding of FEMA, ADWR, CRS, ADEQ, and other regulatory bodies and policies.
Experience multitasking and effectively managing time while handling multiple duties and responsibilities.
Experience that demonstrates customer service skills as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
