Description

Floating Assistant

  • 2 days/wk, Anticipated Swim Assistant

  • 3 days/wk (when pool is open); otherwise floating teacher assistant all 5 days/wk

Assist special education teachers in maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom, ensuring the continuance of the education program developed by the teacher.

Assists with planning and implementing individual and group strategies for students as so defined by student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Assists in maintaining up-to-date records on each student, describing strategies for each student's program.

Works closely with teacher as a member of the educational team to continually modify program for each student.

Assists student with dressing, toileting, feeding, and self-care as needed.

Participates in regular staff meetings, if appropriate.

Reads, understands, and is responsible for implementing and documenting behavior plan and/or individualized education program, as appropriate.

Observes and intervenes to redirect inappropriate behavior.

  • Must be comfortable getting in the pool with students; there will be a teacher there with students as well

Qualifications

  • HS diploma/GED required

  • Must be comfortable getting in the pool with students

  • Experience working with students with special needs, specifically behavior/emotional support, preferred.

  • Comfortability providing both academic and behavioral support to students.

  • Must obtain "qualified" status within one (1) year from date of hire.

  • "Qualified" means having an associate's degree or higher; or having completed 2 years of postsecondary study; or meeting a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment (CAPE test or Certificate of Competency).

  • All assistants must also complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to their assignment each school year in order to continue employment.

Terms of Employment

Full-Time, 188 days - follows traditional school year schedule.

Salary

ESPA, TA/PCA pay scale, minimum beginning the 23-24 school year is $14.50/hour
