A Teacher Assistant (TA) assists a teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom, ensuring the continuance of the education program developed by the teacher.

Qualifications:

• HS diploma/GED required

• Experience working with preschool children with special needs preferred

• Must be willing to frequently get up and down off of the floor to work with and keep up with young children

• Must be high energy and able to keep alert to every child in the classroom

• Current certificate in first aid and CPR, preferred

• Current certificate in LIU approved Crisis Management program, preferred

• All paraprofessionals must also complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to their assignment each school year in order to continue employment.

• Must obtain "qualified" status within one (1) year from date of hire

• "Qualified" means meeting a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a local or state assessment

• Certificate of Competency - free of cost and can be acquired on the job OR

• CAPE test

• OR having an associate's degree or higher

• OR having completed 2 years (48 credits) of postsecondary study.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 7 hour day, 188-day working year. The Preschool Program operates on a unique stretch schedule throughout the entire year, including summer. This is a floating position. The chosen candidate will begin their day at Stonybrook Elementary and travel to Mt. Wolf Elementary for the second half of their day.

Salary: TA/PCA pay scale - Minimum $14.50/hr, plus excellent benefits.
