Position Description
Under supervision of the Office of Court Management, perform a wide variety of functions related to coordinating and scheduling various services (i.e. court interpreters) for the courtrooms, ensuring appropriate coverage and ensuring that all cases filed in the court are timely docketed and that all persons currently in the Harris County jail are brought before the bench within the timeframe prescribed by law and rules of the Harris County Criminal Courts at Law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate, schedule, arrange, assign contract staff to courtrooms on a daily basis.
Access daily dockets and exception reports to ensure compliance with court policies regarding docket call.
Coordinate activities with bailiff, court liaison officer, attorneys and prosecutors where special arrangements are needed for inmates, mental health patients and person involved under special programs by order of the court.
Determine prior to docket call attorneys needed for defendants who do not speak English.
Collaborate with other agencies regarding availability of employees and/or contract staff.
Determine priority of requests for courtroom coverage.
Organize and maintain various schedules including documenting and logging schedules and availability; posting daily schedules; tracking specific requests and maintaining and updating contact information.
Resolve urgent and immediate requests and/or discrepancies with employees and/or contract staff, Judicial Officers, Court staff, Attorneys, and the public regarding assigned courtroom services.
Provide thorough explanations of courtroom procedures to new Court employees and/or contract staff.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Adhere strictly to the Code of Judicial Conduct as promulgated by the Supreme Court of Texas.

Requirements
All applicants must register and take the HRRM Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 80% with a typing speed of 35 W.P.M. and 80% accuracy.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
Four (4) years of experience performing legal clerical duties.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Driver's License.
Completion of Caseflow Management Certification within eighteen (18) monthsof employment.
Continuing education (16 hours annually) in court administration required for recertification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General working knowledge of applicable County Courts Administration structure, policies and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures and practices.
Knowledge and understanding of County Courts functions, policies and procedures.
Knowledge and operation of the judicial system and legal terminology related to courtroom proceedings.
Knowledge of laws and regulations related to assigned functional area.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to independently make decisions based on policies and practices of the Court.
Ability to use standard office equipment such as computer, facsimile, copier, printer, etc. and related software packages (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Web Browsers).
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others within agency and outside groups.
Detail oriented.

Preferences
Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Administration, Criminology, Public Administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university and prior employment of at least two years as an adult probation officer, court clerk or pre-trial services officer, or
Baccalaureate degree or higher level of education from an accredited college or university in a course of study related to the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the classification.
Completion of a Legal Assistant Certificate Program from an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience up to one (1) year.
