This position will supervise the daily operations of the NC State Dining coffeehouses when the permanent supervisor is not available to operate the unit. This position will adhere to Port City Java, Starbucks and NC State Dining standards of excellent customer service and food and drink quality are being met, while maintaining all safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
This position is responsible for the coordination, training, and discipline of staff, students, and temporary labor. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Is present in the work areas and eating areas of the coffee shop during a significant portion of the work day in order to ensure that potential issues are prevented and solved according to Port City Java or Starbucks and NC State Dining standards.
Oversee staff in the preparation and cooking of food to ensure quality is at an exceptional level. Oversee food service unit operations and supervises a staff of employees to ensure guest service and food and drink quality is at an exceptional level, according to Port City Java or Starbucks and University Dining standards. Assign duties to staff daily and works closely with them to make sure they understand their expectations, according to policies and procedures.
Make sure all temperature logs and checklists are being followed. Complete corporate paperwork as required. Verifiy paperwork is completed thoroughly and correctly in order to ensure compliance with requirements.
Perform food production administrative work including purchasing and inventory controls. Must meet assigned budget requirements for food and labor. Will be required to create weekly flash reports.
Prepare lists of items for food and non-food orders as scheduled and enters the order into C-Bord and Port City Java/Starbucks ordering systems. Orders all Port City Java/Starbucks required drinks and snacks that are required to be kept on hand. Ensure products are received, stored and dated.
Ensure all products needed are on hand and that equipment is cleaned and in good repair. Assist with the recruitment and selection process for staff. Monitors work of staff and assess when improvements/training is needed.
Evaluate employees performance based on their skill sets, food and drink knowledge, and their individual abilities. Take corrective action on performance and recommends disciplinary action to management. Train, mentor, and encourage employee growth by cross-training, doing in-service training and one-on-one coaching.
Maintain Grade A sanitation rating. High School diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in food preparation or service activities in a commercial kitchen; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Previous experience working in a coffee house or similar operation.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of employees. Excellent customer service skills and strong communication skills. Basic skills and familiarity with MS Windows and the ability to learn new software.
Initiative, demonstrated problem solving skills, and able to meet strict deadlines. Ability to manage effectively and multitask in a fast paced environment. Position is hands on and requires constant standing/walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 30 lbs occasionally and 60 lbs on rare instances, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed in a kitchen setting which requires working in extremely hot and cold conditions.
