Position Summary:The Machine Operator will be responsible for operating equipment in the one or more value streams of the Good Hope operations. This position is responsible for the production of valuable, defect-free products that meet or exceed our customers' expectations. The machine operator will be successful in this position by executing to standard work and adhering to all company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow Schedule Boards or Hour by Hour boards

  • Run samples and adjust print quality, registration, color settings and mixings to match order specifications.

  • Perform final pre-run inspection of job, quality checks during the run, and job completion, meeting quality and quantity standards.

  • Perform all required preventive maintenance of press.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials and chemicals according to procedures.

  • Work from standard work, written instructions, and established procedures to complete assigned tasks.

  • Address and resolve routine inquiries and problems, referring the more complex issues to the supervisors.

  • Interact with different shifts to provide updates on current jobs, issues, or updates.

  • All other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

  • Basic computer skills E-mail, Microsoft Office, and Data Entry

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs

  • Ability to stand for 80% of shift

  • Ability to push/pull 22 lbs

  • Ability to climb 8 inches; frequent standing and walking

  • Ability to troubleshoot and communicate process issues

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Technical & Analytical skill set

  • Ability to read & follow written directions

  • Detail oriented, strong work ethic & a positive can do attitude

  • Desire to learn

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Mechanical aptitude (working with hand tools, pneumatic tools, following work instructions for disassembling and reassembling various types of process equipment)

  • Must be able to read a ruler accurately within 1/64".

  • Quality conscious and attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain standards of production, both in quantity and quality.

  • Willingness and ability to be cross-trained on other machines and in other departments

  • Ability to follow standard work.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum 1 year experience in roll forming/printing/web handling/compounding/coating

  • Previous digital machine operation, flexographic or Indigo machine operation

  • Contribute to problem solving through root-cause analysis

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and self-directed

  • Experience in lean manufacturing

  • Basic algebra (e.g. order of operations)

  • Willingness and ability to learn and understand fluid mechanics at a basic level.

SUMMARY Responsible for setting up and operating of flexographic printing press to produce final printed product that meets quality expectations and production efficiencies as set forth by the customer and the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Set up, operate, and maintain multi-color flexo presses to print and convert a wide range of products from pressure sensitive labels to sheeted tags. Performing all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as mounting plates, installing cylinders checks for correct positioning of images, adjusting tension and register etc. Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work. Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required. Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer. Requires knowledge of flexo printing procedures, materials, equipment and safety requirements, and skills to perform assignments. Skill to read and understand job specifications to determine press materials needed to run the job successfully. Must have sufficient knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate use of the press and corrective adjustments required to run efficiently, Skill in routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment. Responsible for the understanding and compliance to all company policies and procedures including but not limited to: Safety, Quality, and Workmanship/Productivity. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Education, GED or equivalent. Knowledge of flexo press techniques used in printing to produce finished printed materials preferred.
