Job Summary A registered respiratory therapist (RRT) may be required to deliver respiratory care services to patients in all areas of the hospital (e.g., intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency departments, post-anesthesia care units, infant nurseries, and the home care environment). The therapist must be able to adapt to the particular area of duty assigned and must be able to perform special duties required by the assignment. Specific therapists are also trained to provide respiratory therapy services outside of the hospital setting during critical care patient transports. # The RRT may be required to supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners. The therapist may also be assigned orientation and in-service education responsibilities as well as be asked to function in the role of mentor for students of respiratory therapy participating in clinical rotations at Children#s of Alabama. # The RRT works under the technical supervision and clinical guidance of the Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinators. Direct administrative supervision is provided by the area Respiratory Care Manager and the Respiratory Care Department Head. # The RRT carries out assigned duties and responsibilities according to policies, procedures, and guidelines approved by the Medical Directors of the department. Standards of performance for the area to which the individual is assigned must be maintained. Education The practitioner must be a graduate of an American Medical Association approved 2 or 4 year program of respiratory therapy. Experience The practitioner must have a minimum of one year experience in the field of respiratory therapy. A minimum of six months of intensive care unit experience is preferred. Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries The practitioner must be licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care. The individual must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or must be eligible for registry and sit for and pass the registry examination within a specified amount of time. Current BLS certification required.

Shift is 3-12's Rotating mid-shift (11a/11p) (1p/1a) or (3p-3a) depending on need Working rate: $ 75/per hour with a $5,000 housing bonus; eligible for applicable shift differentials What You Will Do Provide direct nursing care in a diverse healthcare environment in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate. Serve as a coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders. Assess and coordinate patient's care needs with members of the healthcare team. What You Will Need Licensure / Certification / Registration: Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. One or more of the following: Advanced Life Support obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. Education: Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Additional Preferences Must have a minimum 2 years of experience in the area approved for assignments up to 14 weeks which can be extended up to an additional 14 weeks with a maximum of 28 weeks. Current associates are not eligible for the Short Term Option Agreement. Rehires are eligible after a 6-month break in service.
