Responsible for driver safety, FMCSA, and DOT compliance.
Accountable for on-time store delivery routes, tractor utilization, and driver pay.
Builds strong relationships with drivers by, among other things, quarterly face-to-face business meetings with each driver.
Accountable for driver training, driver retention, idle reduction, MPG improvement, driver load dispatch assignment, load optimizing, equipment usage, and effective use of the driver management system.
Promotes a safety culture by evaluating and monitoring the safety performance of all drivers.
Ensures all driver load packages are dispatched with daily communications, assisting with driver emergencies, load optimizing, equipment usage, and effective use of the driver management system.
Answer and process driver load messages through satellite communications, monitor driver assignments, report late deliveries, and plan swaps as needed.
Complete required reports.
Answer telephone calls from drivers, vendors, SSC, and other sources.
Resolve load issues involving overweight, paperwork, missing registrations, and other load issues.
Maintain a driver issues log and communicate to the transportation manager daily.
In-depth knowledge of dedicated transportation operations, FMCSA and DOT regulations.
Understanding of Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program.
Strong communication (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal problem solving skills.
High attention to detail, strong planning, and organization skills.
Understands driver logs, hours of service, and vehicle safety inspections. Proficient in usage of transportation optimization software to perform routing, tendering, scheduling, and shipment tracking.
Ability to function in a high-stress environment.
Must know US geography.
Must know MS Office software.
Bachelor's degree in Business or Logistics or equivalent experience.
One year in transportation operations for a retail / manufacturing company, major carrier, and/or logistics company.
One year transportation experience managing at least 20 or more drivers.
