DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
STARTING SALARY: $16.00 per hour
MINIMUM AGE: 18 years
HOURS OF WORK:
This is a year-round position. The employee will work approximately 28 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is part time work transporting vehicles and equipment to and from City locations as well as to outside vendors. Employee is responsible for operating the City's mail machine. Employee is responsible for daily delivery of interdepartmental mail. Employee performs various manual tasks in assigned duties or in assisting full time personnel. Employee will perform janitorial duties to maintain the cleanliness of various shop and office areas. The work requires operation of a City vehicle, lifting, carrying, loading and unloading of mail, books, and packages. Employee interacts in a consistently pleasant and helpful manner to fellow employees, visitors and citizens of the City of Dearborn and demonstrates the highest standards of internal and external customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery and pickup of interdepartmental mail to Departments and Divisions.
Operates the City's mail machine
Becomes familiar with the postal pricing and procedures
Sorts mail; weighs letters and packages; stamp with proper postage
Record daily log of mail counts, fund transfers, and certified letters
Deliver outgoing stamped mail and parcels to the U.S. Post Office.
Delivery and pickup of library books to and from various City libraries and, occasionally, shut-ins.
Transporting vehicles/equipment to and from various city/vendor locations.
Interior/exterior cleaning of all vehicles and equipment.
General cleaning of all shop areas, shop equipment, wash areas, wash equipment and related office areas of all Motor Transport Division maintenance sites.
Delivery and pickup of supplies and equipment.
Ability to lift and carry objects of various sizes and dimensions weighing as much as 75 pounds
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver License with a good driving record. A CDL is a plus.
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory completion of background check and a pre-employment physical and drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.
