Fleet Mechanic I

The Fleet Mechanic I will perform scheduled preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to automobiles, trucks (light and heavy), trailers, vans and forklifts as directed by Fleet Manager.

Shift and Schedule

This is a full time permanent position working on 2nd shift. 2nd shift hours are from 10:00am - 6:30pm Monday through Friday. Must be open to overtime and weekends as the business needs.

Position Responsibilities

  • Meet the maintenance demands of the Sales and Supply Chain functions and perform quality work at the lowest cost to minimize equipment downtime.

  • Maintain, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all fleet equipment.

  • Knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Preventative Maintenance

  • Electrical

  • Suspension

  • Brakes

  • Drive train

  • Cab and bod

  • Operate in a safe, well organized, and clean work environment (must be able to tolerate hot and cold temperatures depending on the season).

  • Input data accurately and in a timely manner in to the DPS fleet maintenance software program (SAP EAM).

  • Order and inventory parts.

  • Adhere to OSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory compliance standards.

  • The training and experience that comes from the following certifications will be utilized as part of the position responsibilities and will be required to achieve within the first year of employment with Dr Pepper Snapple Group:

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification for maintenance and inspection program

  • DOT Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)

  • DOT brake and annual inspection certification

  • Forklift Operator License

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

  • Valid driver's license

  • Lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly

  • 2 years of technical training or 1 year of fleet experience

  • Able to supply own set of tools

  • Willing and able to acquire the necessary certifications and licenses needed for the position within the first year of employment to include: ASE certification, DOT Commercial Driver's License (CDL A), DOT brake and annual inspection certification, and Forklift Operator License

VIEW JOBS 11/16/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-14T00:00 Class Concept Under direct supervision of the Purchasing/Central Services Director, the Fleet Manager oversees all operations of Montgomery County's Fleet Management program; coordination of operational activities and management of staff within the Maintenance Division; supervises the activities of staff responsible for day-to-day maintenance of fleet vehicles and facilities to ensure compliance with division and departmental policies and contract guidelines. This position will be responsible for assisting in the development of the Fleet Services budget and in the preparation of specifications for bids on equipment, materials, and supplies. Work is performed under minimal supervision and is reviewed for the attainment of all vehicle and customer service goals and objectives, adherence to regulations and policies and the effectiveness and efficiency of management and program accomplishment. Performs the material and substantial duties of the classification more than 50% of the time. Job Duties Using best practices, the Fleet Manager manages all aspects of Montgomery County's Fleet Services, responsible for having all County owned equipment ready for use when needed by scheduling, forecasting, and surveying trend; oversight of electronic databases of sales, registration, inspections and maintenance of fleet management; monitor and ensure fleet operation is in compliance with local and state rules and regulations; maintain data management system to organize fleets per various schedules and requests; manage and maintain fuel purchase program for all vehicles/drivers; oversee vehicle registrations, insurance and documentation regarding induction of new vehicles in the existing fleet; participate in various educational programs and maintain knowledge of best practices; facilitate and implement corrective actions and capacity building to manage entire fleet to achieve Montgomery County objectives; reviews and develops County policies relating to fleet utilization; supervises all Fleet Services employees; trains, develops and disciplines employees; holds employees accountable for their performance in the work unit and for the quality of service they provide to customers; maintains adequate facilities and an adequate inventory of tools, maintenance equipment, replacement parts and supplies by directing the acquisition of such items. Develops maintenance programs for emergency, unscheduled and scheduled maintenance needs of the County fleet while constantly adjusting maintenance priorities to accommodate equipment needs of the operating units being supported; performs annual evaluations of all equipment maintained and recommends the replacement of specific pieces of equipment as necessary; develop fleet administration standards and vehicle operating policies; assistance in preparation of annual budgets and periodic reports on operating costs, purchase or lease of vehicles and equipment, and control over maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of vehicles; directs fleet-related risk management training such as safety and accident prevention programs, and negotiates insurance matters. Plans, directs and participates in implementation and administration of acquisition of Fleet Services equipment to be purchased by Montgomery County based on maintenance considerations and prepares specifications for all equipment purchased; responsible for doing specification research and development, specification scheduling and bid evaluations which includes recommendations for purchase of equipment; evaluates the bids and recommends equipment purchases based on the bids; supervises the inspection of all new equipment to ensure it meets the specifications of the order. Plans, directs and participates in implementation and administration of the Fleet Services budget and oversees the control of expenditures; works with all County departments/divisions to assist and recommend the efficient utilization of all County owned equipment between divisions as necessary to accomplish goals while reducing costs; stay abreast of latest best practices in fleet management in order to allow Montgomery County to best use all equipment in its most effective manner and to extend the life of each piece of equipment; maintain knowledge and prepare forecasts of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, and other needs. Minimum Class Requirements Valid driver's license with a driving record that is in compliance with Montgomery County's acceptable driving record policy; must be maintained throughout employment; AND, Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a directly related field plus five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working with the operation, maintenance, or administration of fleets of vehicles (must include heavy equipment), including three (3) years of mid- to senior level supervisory or management experience; OR, Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
