Key Responsibilities:

Tropicana Brands Group is looking for a highly qualified Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to support the Bradenton, FL team to ensure the company's goals and initiatives are met.

Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations of all wheeled assets across the 280-acre Tropicana Bradenton facility and nationwide railcar fleet. Responsibility for four separate departments including garage maintenance, forklift repair shop, rail car maintenance, and rail car refrigeration maintenance. The position has responsibility for 30+ maintenance technicians across four departments maintaining over 700 pieces of equipment. Tropicana is looking for a critical thinker with exceptional communication, influencing and relationship management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute fleet maintenance and replacement strategy to ensure reliability of fleet assets across the Tropicana Supply Chain while driving declining maintenance costs.

  • Development and execution of capital and operating budgets while delivering superior customer service to both the warehouse operations team and the transportation teams to unlock efficiencies across the Tropicana Supply chain.

  • Provide day to day coaching and oversight of the Maintenance Teams and Leads. Ongoing skill assessment and training plan to develop Technician capability.

  • Coach, develop, and communicate with all supervisory and hourly employees to achieve superior performance.

  • Manage capital and expense projects to support department goals including safety, quality, and productivity projects.

  • Monitor and track railcar assets over the road to ensure reliability of equipment and compliance with Tropicana quality and temperature control policies.

  • Ensure that the department maintains and improves its regulatory compliance including but not limited to: Federal Railroad Administration, Association of American Railroads compliance, OSHA, Department Of Transportation.

  • Lead department Breakdown Analysis, Autonomous Maintenance, Cost analysis, 5S, Focus Improvement, Predictive Maintenance, and Total Efficiency

  • Administer company policies, procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement within the department while maintaining a solid effective working relationship with the local union.

  • Coordinate with CSX railroad crews, technicians, and other relevant outside contractors to deliver the business plan.

  • Support off shifts and weekends as necessary to support maintenance activities.

  • Assumes other responsibilities and performs special functions as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

  • Responsible for multi-site maintenance yard standards, and best practice procedures incl. track maintenance, railroad procedures, covering the whole network, Jersey City, Cincinnati, City of Industry and Ft. Pierce.

This position is also responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Tropicana owned rail infrastructure - inspection, maintenance, and repair for rail and crossing assets for Bradenton and Ft. Pierce and assist Jersey City and the Cincinnati DC rail assets.

  • Maintain refrigeration repair and fueling support service for all in-route needs to all DC locations. (Throughout all transit lanes and locations)

  • Maintain positive but assertive relationship with railroad entities including transportation, mechanical, and track repair leadership.

  • Work closely and maintain strong rapport with major suppliers of goods and services.

  • Support refrigeration monitoring / intervention - responsible for all refrigerated loads originating from all distribution centers and throughout the transit lanes.

  • Maintain AOP / budget / spending performance for the five cost centers - Railcar Maintenance, Railcar Refrigeration Maintenance, Unit Train Operations, Garage Operations, Forklift Repair Operations.

  • Maintain focus on predictive maintenance / component replacement especially on unattended (in-route) equipment i.e. Railcars, refrigeration and Orbcomm systems.

  • Maintain team performance in areas of HSE, PPE compliance, 5-S, GMP, environmental requirements of bulk and transport fuel tanks and containments, refrigerant reclaim protocols, tracking and reporting of carbon / emissions / greenhouse impact information / fuel consumption / Refrigerant consumption, etc.

  • Responsible to provide required and needed skills training per Federal Railroad Administration, Association of American Railroads, environmental / safety compliance.

  • Assure a diverse and inclusive workplace and adhere to the Tropicana code of conduct protocols.

  • Maintain a high level of cost performance over outside services and contractors to assure lowest cost fleet operations.

  • Support internal customers with information, guidance, and technical support to assure proper equipment application, service / cost life balance, and proper specification of new equipment is maintained.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree

  • 5-7 years of Wheeled Maintenance and/or relevant railroad experience and/or transport refrigeration experience

  • 8- 10 years of demonstrated increased responsibility in supervisory, management or comparable leadership positions.

  • Knowledge of technical troubleshooting: component and equipment functionality for pneumatic and hydraulic systems, knowledge of pumps, motors, drives, gearboxes, bearings, etc.

  • Basic understanding of electrical troubleshooting including basic understanding of program troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of Breakdown Analysis, 5S, Autonomous Maintenance, Focus Improvement, Progressive Maintenance and TPM Systems

  • Knowledge of transport refrigeration systems

  • Knowledge of microbiological concerns of a food grade product, and the impact of temperature control

  • Successful candidate must be located in or be willing to relocate to Bradenton, FL

  • Strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Solid employee relations experience, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

  • Professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader by influencing all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

  • This role is site based and must be onsite daily.

  • Able to flex shifts as needed to accommodate business needs.

  • Ability to travel approximately 5%
