The City of Roanoke is looking for a proactive Fleet Maintenance Scheduler to join our team. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for equipment repair requests from operators.

Your responsibilities will include making preliminary diagnoses, initiating the work order process, and assigning tasks to the appropriate technicians. You'll also track work progress, ensure repair records are accurate, and keep operators and other departments informed about the status of their equipment. Additionally, you will implement and manage a light maintenance program to keep our fleet running smoothly.

To be successful in this role, you should have a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by technical automotive training. We're looking for someone with one to three years of experience in skilled automotive mechanical work, including supervision.

Experience in fleet management, particularly within a government setting, is preferred.

Existing fleet certifications are a plus, but if you're not certified, you'll need to obtain a CAFM, CPFP, or CEM certification within three years of your hire date.

A valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is required for this position. You may also need to qualify for certification as a State Inspector.

Examples of Duties

SUMMARY

Supervises and manages assigned light maintenance positions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following depending on area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned.

Receives requests for equipment repairs from operators. Makes preliminary diagnoses, initiates work order process and assigns work to appropriate technicians.

Tracks work in progress and ensures accuracy of repair records. Keeps operators and other departments informed regarding status of equipment.

Implements and manages light maintenance program. Monitors maintenance schedules and communicates with other departments to arrange timely service. Assigns work to appropriate technicians, tracks work progress, and ensures accuracy of equipment and service records.

Implements and manages state inspection program. Schedules inspections in a timely manner and assigns work to appropriate personnel and schedules related repairs and maintenance efficiently.

Produces real time utilization, maintenance, parts, productivity and other reports as required.

Coordinates repair work performed by outside vendors. Arranges for the delivery and return of equipment and tracks progress of work done by contractors. Arranges external testing services and processes results, adjusts schedules as needed and communicates findings to staff.

Maintains accuracy of technical equipment records in fleet information systems. Responsible for the operation and upkeep of outside technical information services. Provides training to staff on the use of these information sources.

Performs minor service work and light repairs as needed.

Participates in other projects as assigned.

Serves on committees and attends meetings as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by technical automotive training and one to three years related experience and/or training in skilled automotive mechanical work and supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Fleet management experience particularly in a government setting is preferred.

Existing fleet certification a plus. Uncertified candidates shall obtain a CAFM, CPFP or CEM within three years of hire date.

Supplemental Information

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid appropriate drivers permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. May be required to qualify for certification as a State Inspector.
