Job Description Summary

The goal of the Finance Leadership Development Program is to attract and develop self-motivated talent who are highly skilled and passionate about a career in Accounting and/or Finance and provide them with a foundation for future success within the organization. As a CPA FLDP participant, you will model the way for others and set a personal example of what is expected. You will be expected to positively challenge processes and identify new and innovative ways to get work done more effectively and efficiently. You will be expected to take initiative, embrace change, actively listen to and support diverse points of view and celebrate the success of others. CPA FLDP Participants will rotate through three, one-year assignments. These assignments may be within Business Units or Corporate departments. Throughout the program, participants will continue to develop their leadership and technical skills while gaining a thorough understanding of functions within Accounting and Finance. In addition to a required academic curriculum, there are extensive formal and informal mentoring and networking opportunities with senior leaders across the company.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • CPA FLDP Participants are typically given challenging and complex assignments which may include many of the responsibilities outlined below:

  • Cost/Benefit Analysis

  • Financial Reporting

  • Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Management Information & Analysis

  • Budget & Reforecasts

  • Preparation of Board Materials

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years professional Accounting Experience.

  • CPA certified (or at least has passed 2 exams with plans to obtain CPA within a year).

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Preferred minimum GPA: 3.0.

  • Preferred 2-3 years of Public Accounting experience.

  • Preferred Property & Casualty Industry knowledge.

Licensing or Certificates

  • CPA certified (or at least has passed 2 exams with plans to obtain CPA within a year).

Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller oversees, manages, and coordinates Planned Parenthood's financial monitoring systems. As a member of the highly collaborative Senior Operations Team, the Controller will help lead the organization and participate in organization-wide planning and decision-making. The Controller will supervise Accounting staff. As a leader in the organization, the Controller is responsible to drive the success of key financial and operational objectives which support the mission and strategies of Planned Parenthood. The Controller is an advocate in implementing our mission to "affirm the human right to reproductive health and freedom." Perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Accounting and Finance * Oversee the activities of the Accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. * Review workload and analyze staffing requirements; interviews, selects, trains, counsels and evaluates staff to ensure effective support; reviews the efforts of staff and provides direction where needed, ensuring timely completion of task and projects in accordance with objectives * Provide financial leadership to the organization by establishing prudent processes for the finance functions of treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, and short/long range forecasting that evaluates financial performance to meet corporate objectives and profit goals * Prepare reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations. The reports are used as basis for decision making and funding requests * Establish and maintain cost accounting procedures, systems, and controls which enhance the company's value and verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data * Responsible for month-end close and general ledger maintenance * Manage 501c3/c4 financial relationships * Ensure respective areas meet requirements for Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) accreditation * Oversee disbursement activities, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, petty cash, employee expense reports, cash control, and total corporate payroll tax compliance * Manage cash flow to maximize earnings and realize all available payment discounts. Responsible for daily cash management.
