POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Director, with input from the Sr. Assistant Dean and Career Management team develops and implements short and long range goals, objectives, and strategies relating to the career programs; manages career management workshops with assistance from Graduate Business Career Management (GBCM) staff and outside experts; career awareness events, and materials and resources necessary to support career development; manages multifaceted relationships with staff, faculty, alumni, and students; and provides career services to individuals and groups. The position will help with event planning and logistics for Career Management workshops, and professional development series.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Career Consulting

  • Manage comprehensive career resources and platform for GBP students, as needed to support excellence in GBCM service delivery.

  • Guide students on long and short- term career strategy action plan development; engaging them in GBCM programming and services, and tracking career readiness; ensuring consistent and comprehensive reporting on all advisement activity.

  • Leverage industry and business experience to deliver information to students on career development and transition, job search tools, employment market trends, empowering students to compete for employment opportunities.

  • Administer, and provide vocational assessment tool (e.g., CareerLeader, MBTI, DiSC) counseling, helping students to develop self-awareness, clear career aspirations, and identify careers
    2.Program Management

  • Develop, manage and implement select career events, workshops and programs to educate students on all aspects of career management and the job search process, preparing students to secure full-time and internship opportunities.

  • Provide program management support for various GBCM operations, including maintenance of career tools and resources (e.g., Handshake, employer contact management, GBCM social media tools, GBCM website); and data tracking and evaluation for reporting (GBCM events survey, GBCM employment survey, GBCM student profile survey)

  • Student engagement events and activities as needed.
    3.Corporate Outreach and Relationship Development

  • Develop and maintain strong connections with prospective employers and alumni to engage with GBCM and Graduate Business Program students to enhance outreach and advising capabilities. Enhance student employment outcomes through proactive engagement with employers to refer potential candidates and influence companies/alumni to recruit Graduate Business Program students.

  • Develop programs to help promote employment opportunities among the GBP student population, such as employer information sessions, employer treks, on-campus-interviews, and shadow days.

  • Manage processes to communicate timely, relevant recruiting information to students, GBP staff and others as appropriate.

  • Represent the GBCM at select corporate events and professional conferences, as needed.
    4.Systems Support and Leadership

  • Works with Handshake, Career survey, VMock and other systems for Graduate Business Programs.

  • Ensures that data is loaded and works with staff to troubleshoot as needed.

  • Ensures that events are loaded into the systems and displayed in the GBP Career Management LinkedIn group and other areas.

  • Take the lead on emails from the general Career management email box.
    5.Other duties as assigned.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

The Assistant Director, MBA/MS Programs Career Development and Programming has the role of (1) Career Services Consulting - serving as an advisor for GBP students; (2) Program Management - facilitating career transition, career choice/job search process, career development and job search strategies; including developing and implementing appropriate career programming to support job search efforts; (3) Corporate Outreach - growing and strengthening corporate and government relations with employers and executive recruiters and create employment opportunities for Graduate Business Programs students; (4) Systems Support - takes the lead on all GBP Career related systems.

Knowledge

  • Experience in marketing operations, understanding of career advisement and coaching frameworks, employer relations, networking, placement desired.

  • Knowledge of and interest in finance, entrepreneurship, and technology industries preferred.

Abilities

  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated presentation skills; exceptional attention to detail and editing ability highly desired.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to perform data analysis with Excel highly desired.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Masters degree in business, education, marketing, counseling or a related field preferred.

Years of Experience

  • Three to five years of professional experience required. Experience in a university or corporate setting with some direct customer service experience necessary; counseling and career advisement, program management, or industry experience in corporate recruiting, talent management, or career placement activities desirable.
