Summit Credit Union, voted Top Workplace 4 years running, has an exciting opportunity to join our Accounting department as a Fixed Asset Accounting Analyst. In this role,

you will be performing a wide variety of accounting functions and preparing various accounting and financial reports with a primary focus on supporting the planning and managing capital expenditures and general ledger data system. The ideal candidate can work independently under minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Perform accounting functions for fixed assets

  • Code items appropriately, maintain subsidiary documents and schedules, post depreciation expense

  • Provide information to managers to help them make and plan for capital expenditures

  • Balance and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts. Research and reconcile errors and make any necessary journal entries

  • Research GAAP for recording capitalized assets

  • Prepare premises and equipment footnotes for CPA audits

  • Perform accounting functions for prepaid assets

  • Code items appropriately, maintain subsidiary documents and schedules, post amortization expense

  • Balance and reconcile applicable general ledger accounts

  • Perform advanced accounting work with allowance for loan and lease losses accounts. Balance and reconcile general ledger discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information. Prepare call report charge off and recovery schedule. File maintain schedules for product changes.

  • Perform payroll accounting tasks and reconcile applicable general ledgers. Confirm payroll taxes are paid timely. Build and maintain branches, payroll codes and general ledgers in multiple systems.

  • Complete monthly investment safekeeping review.

  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.

  • Assist in preparing tax forms and/or supporting schedules for taxes filed by the credit union.

  • Balance and reconcile multiple general ledgers, resolving variances timely

  • Perform core system(s) maintenance of general ledgers. Includes creating, modifying, and deleting accounts, investigating and resolving inaccurate branch transaction post, and other system exceptions.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of systems impacting the general ledger. Plan, design and develop processes as system(s) changes

  • Represent the accounting department and participate on multidepartment project teams.

  • Be a resource to answer accounting procedures questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations

  • Perform reporting functions

  • Prepare and complete forms, documents and spreadsheets required to compile daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end internal and/or external reports

  • Accurately complete periodic reports as required

  • Maintain applicable reports for required record retention period

  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers and assist with simple to complex accounting problems

  • Provide support to other departments as needed.

  • Understand and is accountable for executing all job functions in a way that is consistent with all requirements of BSA, OFAC and the USA Patriot Act/Customer Identification Act (CIP). Note: Failure to comply with requirements may be subject to strong disciplinary action, up to and including termination by the credit union, as well as civil and criminal penalties.

Job Specifications

  • Requires educational equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business.

  • Three years' experience in the accounting/operations of a retail financial institution or business related field. One year working with prepaid and fixed assets

  • Professional well developed interpersonal skills essential for interacting with credit union staff and members.

  • Must demonstrate a high understanding of financials and accounting with a passion for accuracy.

  • Requires the ability to follow-up on problems presented to members and co- workers using a customer service approach including use of investigative problem solving.

  • Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc).

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, and intermediate knowledge of Excel.
