POSITION OVERVIEW
Position entails setting up equipment and teaching an instructional program in a specialized field of fitness and weight lifting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and implement an exercise program for program participants.
Practice safe and effective exercise and weight lifting techniques to include appropriate warm up and cool down procedures, stretching, and cardiovascular training.
Educate participants on making healthy lifestyle choices.
Maintain order among program participants.
May produce events showcasing pupils' achievement.
Accurately complete incident reports.
Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to assess and report faulty fitness center equipment utilizing industry standard terminology.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, co-workers and representatives of other organizations.
Ability to counsel participants to affect positive outcomes and meet program measurable goals.
Ability to motivate youth and relate to their needs and interests.
Ability to work as a member of a team to assure project completion.
Ability to organize work in order to meet established deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED.
Two or more years of experience working with at risk youth from ages 14 to 22.
One year of paid experience for conducting fitness programs.
Any combination of relevant education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Current certification in Personal Training, Exercise Science, Physical Education or related field. Certifications may include but are not limited to ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFPA, IFPA, AAI, etc.
