Primary Job Duties

The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Fitness & Wellness division as well managing the Towns Wellness Program. This includes creating and implementing community and wellness programs, as well as supervising a team responsible for providing a safe environment and exemplary customer service for patrons. The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor and scheduling contract vendors and instructors, and resolving procurement issues relating to them. In addition, The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor oversees daily operations and programming, manages assigned budget areas, drives revenue goals and objectives, and implements performance measures.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field preferred. Three years of supervisory role and fitness center experience preferred.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  • Must possess current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months from date of employment.

  • Must be bondable.

  • Valid Texas Driver's License

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with the management operations and ensures proper functionality of the fitness area, The Rec at the Lakefront; this includes mechanical equipment, janitorial, and general maintenance of the facility.

  • Manages staff, including making decisions involving hiring, coaching, and performance. Responsible for ensuring staff successfully complete all assigned trainings and documentation.

  • Autonomy over Fitness & Wellness programs and services, including creating, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating those programs and services.

  • Manages the Town Wellness Program and the Town Wellness committee, including planning, organizing, programming, and tracking all aspects of the Wellness Program. This includes working closely with the Human Recourses Department to ensure success of the program.

  • Creates, implements and manages community wellness programs.

  • Maintains a clean and safe facility specific to the fitness area, classrooms, restrooms, and group fitness rooms. This includes overseeing the overall maintenance of the fitness equipment and management of supplies.

  • Ensures efficient staff performance that meets and/or exceeds safety and service standards. Instills and maintains servant leadership principles with staff and creates culture of accountability.

  • Authority over and responsibility for recruiting, training, overseeing, coordinating, scheduling, and evaluating contracted instructors and volunteers; responsibility for payment of invoices relating to same

  • Works with Marketing and Communications to create and implement marketing strategies, social media strategy, and assists with input of information for Activity Guide.

  • Schedules and maintains detailed records in Activenet.

  • Assists with membership sales and drives.

  • Evaluates existing policies and procedures to determine the efficiency and productivity of the Fitness & Wellness Division; responsibility for identifying and implementing changes to improve community involvement in the recreation center and its programs, as well as meeting cost-recovery goals.

  • Prepares, manages, and monitors assigned areas of the budget.

  • Uses discretion and independent judgment regarding procurement/purchasing decisions, in compliance with Town policies.

  • Authority and responsibility to respond to and resolve customer complaints, questions and suggestions related to the Fitness and Wellness Division programs, activities, services and special events.

  • Implements financial management functions.

  • Collects data and prepares necessary reports.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with vendors, area businesses, internal departments and other agencies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and be able to push and pull up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position may also be required to teach fitness classes as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in an office and indoor/outdoor aquatics atmosphere with potential exposure to heavy chemical presence. The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor may be exposed to heat, cold, and temperature swings.
