Summary

About the Position: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers delivers superior-quality projects and services, building on our long-standing record of excellence. The San Francisco District is comprised of civilian personnel organized into divisions, including Program and Project Management, Engineering and Technical Services, Operations and Readiness, Regulatory, and Resource Management.
Responsibilities

Performs pawning operations, incubation, rearing, feeding, inventory, and distribution of Coho Salmon.
Participates in implementing experimental methodologies.
Creates and maintains records of Coho Salmon Captive Broodstock production, feed schedules, and distribution.
Complies with Endangered Species Act legislation.
Prepares and delivers technical/scientific presentations to personnel, other agencies, stakeholders and the public.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Business Travel (TDY) is approximately 5% of the time.

This position involves strenuous exertion, prolonged walking over wet surfaces, climbing, lifting, pushing, balancing, etc. while remaining alert. Requires stamina and excellent health to withstand inclement weather, physical exertion and long hours.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for Fishery Biologist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-05: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects. OR a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing support to higher graded fish biologists, making observations and measurements and providing reliable data to other district offices and federal, state and local agencies, identifying solutions to common problems needing only occasional supervision to perform tasks OR
One year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. See

GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which includes experience in applying principles and practices of fishery biology for Coho Salmon sufficient to independently perform in fish husbandry including rearing, nutritional requirements, and techniques to raise Coho Salmon in a Captive Breeding Program with minimal supervision OR
successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology OR
C. A combination of specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than the required education in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
