Job Description and Duties

Are you interested in beginning your career as a wildlife management professional? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is now hiring for a Seasonal Aide position to assist in the operation and management of the 9,200-acre Gray Lodge Wildlife Area's Interpretive Services Program.

With this exciting opportunity, incumbents will assist with on- and off-site and virtual programs and events. You will provide scientific information (such as wetland ecology, waterfowl biology, wildlife management, water and wildlife conservation), information on recreation, and information on the role of CDFW to a variety of audiences through tours, demonstrations, roving contacts, at hunter check stations, outreach booths, and/or activities in the community. To facilitate this, you will collect and process statistics of visitor use and services.

This includes reviewing digital image data; identifying vehicles and aspects of the visitors within; communicating with visitors and recording visitor numbers; waiver counts and review of other pertinent information. You will also be asked to perform general maintenance throughout the wildlife area, the office, and check stations, including trash pickup and restroom servicing. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience, beginning your career as a wildlife professional.

The Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions

Varies between sedentary office setting and outside work environments.

The incumbent will be expected to work in inclement weather, rough terrain, must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and/or odd hours.

Position will be filled in multiple counties: Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Yuba and Sutter Counties

Must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs., ability to swim and stay afloat for 5 minutes.
