Are you seeking to gain experience in the world of Conservation Law Enforcement? Join our team as a Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer Intern to get an insider's perspective on what it takes to protect Washington's public and natural resources. We are seeking an Olympia-based Intern to assist our Officers both in the office and the field!

These positions are opportunities to gain an understanding of the Enforcement Program's role within the WDFW organization and how it intersects with other WDFW programs.

In these dynamic roles you will be responsible for helping Fish & Wildlife Police Officers to accomplish the daily and overall mission of the Law Enforcement Program.

You are excited to obtain exposure to inter-jurisdictional police activities while assisting Fish & Wildlife Officers in a variety of general labor duties including stocking vehicles for patrol.

The ideal candidates are interested in a career in public safety, and current college students in their junior or senior year.

Our Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer Interns,

Performs general labor:

  • Clean various equipment, vehicles, and products.

  • Take inventory of and tracking the use of supplies.

  • Stock vehicles for patrol.

  • Assist Fish & Wildlife Police Officers with compliance checks.

  • Assist with files and documentation.

  • Set up and take down equipment.

  • Prepare a variety of equipment for patrols and ensure equipment is stored in a clean, serviceable, and ready-for-patrol condition.

  • Attend agency meetings and training sessions.

Assists with miscellaneous projects:

  • Learn the Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Regulation Manual.

  • Learn about the WDFW organization and structure.

  • Gain exposure to inter-jurisdictional police activities.

  • Gain an understanding of the Enforcement Police role within the WDFW organization and how it intersects with other WDFW programs.

  • Gain basic understanding of Fish & Wildlife species the WDFW conserves and protects.

  • Assist other WDFW programs with field or office work.

  • Assist with maintenance of WDFW property or operations, including manual labor.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:

  • Some work occurs in an outdoor environment and may include inclement weather conditions.

  • Schedule:

  • Full-time (40 hours per week); expected to work same schedule as the direct supervisor. However, there are times the schedule will vary, depending on available work.

  • Travel Requirements:

  • May travel statewide when necessary.

  • Tools and Equipment:

  • Standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desks, files, cabinets, computers, telephones, fax machines, copy machines, etc.)

  • Customer Interactions:

  • Interacts with commissioned and non-commissioned Enforcement Program staff, headquarters and regional staff from other WDFW programs; local, state, tribal and federal law-enforcement entities, and state citizens.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School/GED Graduate.

  • Must have completed one year at an academically accredited college or university.

Licenses:

  • Valid Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

  • Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check.

PREFFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate is a junior or higher pursing a college degree (or recent college graduate).

  • Show a willingness to learn and follow directions.

  • Willing and able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Show initiative and ask plenty of questions.

  • Be dependable.

  • Able to travel statewide when necessary.
