Job Summary / Basic Function
This position reports to the Assistant Controller and performs advanced accounting duties while working independently within PASSHE and GASB accounting guidelines. Various accounting and fiscal duties involve, processing and recording financial transactions, reconciling financial reports in SAP to various ancillary systems, and reviewing transactions and postings for compliance and accuracy. Thorough knowledge of SAP and Excel is essential to this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Prepares daily bank statements for both Key Bank and M&T Bank
Reconciles all University receipts and disbursements with local bank accounts.
Assist with clearing bank activity through FEBA (electronic banking) to update trial balance (M&T Bank)
Monitors monthly outstanding checks escheatment process using SAP for Accounts Payable, Student Accounts, & Payroll checks.
Processes voided checks and stop payments.
Transfers monies from local bank accounts to M&T Bank.
Prepares various accounting related journal entries.
Responds to university staff on accounting procedures related to cash receipts and disbursements.
Maintains custody over a petty cash fund.
Processes and monitors requests for travel and cash advances.
Monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
Work closely with Student Accounts departments.
Create & maintain online payment processing through Touchnet.
Maintain merchant account list.
Assist with internal and external audits.
Performs other related special project duties as required on an as needed basis to meet the daily needs of the Assistant Controller. All duties are to be performed using a contemporary office procedure and equipment, including but not limited to the use of a personal computer.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary
One year as a Fiscal Assistant; or three years of work involving the maintenance of fiscal or financial records, including one year of responsible work which involves the application of accounting or fiscal principles and practices; and graduation from high school; or one year of experience in maintaining and reviewing fiscal records and an Associate degree in accounting or business administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or related field, or related experience. Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office software skills.
Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in fund accounting or higher education.
SAP or large ERP software experience
Ability to prepare routine financial reports and statements.
Deadline and detail oriented
Strong analytical and thinking skills.
Physical Demands Work Location Any PennWest Campus. Is travel to other PennWest campuses required for this position? If so, how often?
Yes, but travel is infrequent.
