Duties and Responsibilities

  • Denotes Essential Functions
  • *Serves as the University¿s lead on capital asset accounting and inventory management.
  • *Serves as the University¿s lead on the Kuali Financial System (KFS) Capital Asset Management Module (CAMM).
  • *Reviews, recommends, develops, and implements policies and procedures regarding capital asset accounting and inventory management in accordance with the Hawaii Revised Statutes and Hawaii Administrative Rules.
  • *Leads the development and implementation of KFS CAMM system enhancements including testing, documenting, training, and reporting.
  • *Performs the reconciliation of fixed assets and prepares adjusting entries to KFS.
  • *Communicates information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing and verbally with University departments and outside agencies on accounting and reporting procedures and requirements; resolves accounting issues and discrepancies.
  • *Develops and conducts relevant training sessions in a wide range of KFS, General Accounting, and Capital Asset Accounting functions.
  • *Maintains subsidiary ledgers for land, improvements, buildings, and construction in progress (CIP) projects
  • *Maintains and updates system building description tables in the fixed asset system.
  • *Performs or supervises the performance of accounting-related functions for construction in progress including capitalization of completed projects and applicable disposal (including delayering of prior construction costs) of improved assets.
  • Prepares detailed schedules for real property transactions for year-end audit.
  • *Performs various professional accounting & fiscal administrative tasks that require specialized knowledge & training for technical correctness, compliance w/guidelines established by GAAP, GASB, University administrative procedures, & state, federal rules & regulation.
  • Prepares accurate year-end adjusting and closing journal entries, trial balances, audit schedules, or other internal or external reports as assigned.
  • Assists in the implementation of new GASB pronouncements and other authoritative guidance.
  • *Performs periodic reconciliation of KFS transactions to identify missing transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for accounting/fiscal operations; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of governmental or financial accounting as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with government and financial accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of problems and the resolution of problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
