The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Incident Business Section for a Fiscal Analyst 2. This position will work closely with other team members to analyze various reports, complete research, and compile documents on Wildland Fire expenditures and Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) claims. Another key duty of this position will be performing day-to-day fiscal actions, including coding and preparing payable requests and reviewing outstanding receivables. Additionally, the position will develop expenditure and revenue forecasts and complete fiscal year-end tasks for the Wildland Fire Management Division. This position is a part of the Incident Business Team and will provide backup support to other team members as needed during high workloads.  Responsibilities:

  • Audit Wildland Fire expenditures, Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) expenditures, and Third-Party Cost Recovery incident expenditures.

  • Preparing correction requests

  • Analyzing and coding Wildland Fire payables and preparing Invoice Payment Requests (IPRs)

  • Developing expenditure and revenue forecasts

  • Completing fiscal year-end tasks

This may be filled as an in-training position. This is designated as a 12-month training plan. If you complete all elements of the training steps in a shorter amount of time, we may waive the remainder of the time required. Candidates will be considered as Fiscal Analyst 1 (In-Training) or Fiscal Analyst 2 (FA2), depending on qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

Fiscal Analyst 1 (In-Training)

(Salary range: $3,477 - $4,632 per month):

  • Completion of 12 college course hours in accounting, auditing, budget, or a closely related field.

  • Two years of fiscal experience.

Fiscal Analyst 2

(Salary range: $3,811 - $5,117 per month):

  • An associate degree in accounting, auditing, budgeting, or general business administration AND one year of experience in a financial field;

OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Completion of 12 college course hours in accounting, auditing, budget, or a closely related field.

  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.

  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism (Confidentiality).

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:

  • In office settings with periodic work in warehouse-type settings

  • Periodic visits to DNR facilities (region offices, work centers, cache, etc.) may be required but will generally remain within Thurston County.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience working in a finance position for a state agency.

  • Experience performing financial reviews and accurately analyzing fiscal data.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

  • Experience researching applicable state laws, policies, and procedures related to areas of responsibility.

  • Strong time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workloads.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both in a team setting and independently.

  • Experience working in NaturE, FES, DATAMART, and/or Enterprise Reporting systems.
