The First Year Experience Coordinator provides leadership, management, and coordination of programs that facilitate first year undergraduate students' transition and success.
Position responsibilities will include: Provide philosophical and strategic direction for developing programs and implementing high-impact practices and services that support first year student academic transition, retention and success Build and strengthen relationships within the college to provide a comprehensive first year experience for first year students aligned with the college mission, and to provide plans and strategies for retention and progression of undergraduate students Provide on-going expertise and advocacy for the First Year Experience Coordinate existing first year programs including First Year Advisement, Orientation Advisement, FirstChoice, Learning Communities, First Year Signature courses and Starfish Early Alert Support new first year initiatives such as service-learning Determine the effectiveness of first year programs through ongoing, systematic assessment Prepare assessment plans and reports Collaborate with colleagues in student affairs and academic affairs focused on student success Coordinate pre-registration process and Orientation Advisement in collaboration with Transfer Services Coordinator and the New Student Orientation Coordinator In addition, the First Year Experience Coordinator will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
Required Qualifications: Master's degree by time of appointment Two years professional experience working in higher education Knowledge of assessment strategies to evaluate and improve performance Professional interpersonal and public presentation skills Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders Strong computer and technology skills Demonstrated knowledge of current research, theory and best practices of first year student experience and student retention programs
Master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, or related area Three years experience working in higher education focused on first year student success Experience assessing program effectiveness, and successfully applying for grants to support program development Experience teaching in a higher education setting Knowledge of FERPA Experience with Banner and Starfish Early Alert and Connect To Apply:

The First Year Experience Coordinator works with a variety of constituents on campus in the Divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to provide support and programming to our incoming First Year Students.
The First Year Experience Coordinator will report to the Director of the Center for Experiential Learning.
The Center for Experiential Learning is located in the Compass and focuses on promoting all aspects of experiential learning.
The Center offers a variety of opportunities and programs to SUNY Oswego undergraduate and graduate students.
