Primary Job Duties

To be considered for a pilot position, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age

  • Hold a Commercial License

  • Possess a current first-class medical (verified at interview)

  • Be a U.S. citizen or able to show proof of right to work in the U.S.

  • Hold an FCC Radio License

  • English Proficiency Endorsement (EPE)

  • Have a current Passport

  • Hold an aviation degree from an accredited school (or equivalent experience)

  • Must be available to work on any day, seven days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Based on pilot bidding seniority and other factors, must be available for a call-out with as little as a two hour notice. Must be available for this call out on any day, night, weekends and holidays

  • Be within three months of the minimum hour requirements detailed below

ATP Written Requirement:

  • SkyWest will provide the means to complete a SkyWest-approved CTP course for those who complete an application and successfully pass the pilot interview.

Pilot applicants must also meet one of the following minimums:

SkyWest Minimum Requirements When Counting Helicopter or Glider TimeSkyWest Airlines recognizes the skills common to helicopter and glider flying. SkyWest will accept helo/glider time as part of an applicant's total time as long as they have a minimum of 250 PIC hours of fixed wing.

Criminal Offense and Canadian Clearance

No pilot who has been convicted of any criminal offense that will prohibit him/her of gaining Canadian clearance will be hired for a flight job. Five years after the conviction or completing the applicable sentence, the pilot has to apply for Canadian Rehabilitation from Canada and receive a wavier indicating that they are eligible to enter into the country. Any conviction that a pilot receives while employed at SkyWest Airlines would require them to complete the same process.

Reserve for Flight Jobs

Initially, most pilot new hires can expect to be placed on reserve, depending on the needs of individual domiciles. In some cases, time spent on reserve can be substantial for flight jobs. Ready reserves are also used and most likely utilized at domiciles or hubs. Regular reserve policy requires a two-hour call out. Pilots on reserve status must be available for this call out on any day, night, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

  • Assist the Pilot- in- Command (PIC) in conducting the flight safely and efficiently

  • Assist the PIC and/or passenger service personnel as needed to ensure a prompt departure

  • Assist or relieve the PIC in manipulation of the flight controls of an aircraft while underway, including taxiing, takeoff and landing of such aircraft

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Must have a First Class Medical

  • Must be willing to fly assigned schedule based on pilot bidding seniority; including days, nights, weekends, and holidays

VIEW JOBS 10/14/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-12T00:00 The pilot operates aircraft to fly aerial photo missions in support of mapping and LiDAR projects. As Pilot in Command of the aircraft, the pilot directs onboard crew to ensure safe and efficient acquisition missions. Responsibilities include performing flight operations within schedule and budget; coordinating with authorities to obtain flight permission/clearance within restricted or Class B airspace; maintaining flight records; and advising supervisor of any equipment maintenance requirements or safety concerns. The pilot is responsible for determining the aircraft is in an airworthy condition prior to flight and operating the assigned aircraft. The PIC is directly responsible for the safety of any passengers, crew, and cargo. The decision regarding whether a flight may be safely completed rests with the PIC, who is the final authority regarding operation of the Sanborn aircraft. The PIC must comply with the Flight Operations Manual directives and FAA regulations. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES: * Coordinate flight plans. * Perform flight operations as required by projects within schedule and budget. * Travel extensively while working as an airborne crew member throughout North America and foreign countries as needed. * Maintain records of flights. * Prepare and submit reports (pilot logs, dailies, expense reports, timecards, etc.) in an accurate and timely fashion. * Coordinate with appropriate authorities in obtaining flight permission/clearance. * Maintain required FAA certifications. * Assist with training of new pilots and others as assigned. * Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: * High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred Associates of Science in Aviation or equivalent experience. EXPERIENCE: * Minimum of 800 hours total flying time. 400 as pilot in command. * Minimum of 100 hours MEL to be considered to operate multi-engine aircraft. * Proficiency with computers and software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: * Active commercial pilots license. * IFR Rating. * 1st class medical certification from FAA. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Approval from chief pilot and acceptance/insurability by Sanborns aviation carrier. * Successful completion of initial drug screen and subsequent drug screens. * Successful completion of a background check, including driving record. * Ground and flight training required in make and model of designated aircraft. * Ability to provide flight training in designated make and model to staff pilots. * Valid passport and ability to travel anywhere in North America. Position workflow is travel and field work 2-3 weeks engaged to work every day then ten days off on a rotation schedule. Position is considered part-time in total work hours per year.
