Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for leading the Columbus, NE 3rd shift production, hourly team members to attain production and quality goals while ensuring the safest working environment possible. Accountable for daily operations of the department and creating an engaged and team-oriented workforce to obtain business results.

A high performer in this position will identify problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolve issues; ensure production resources (including materials, equipment, and human resources) are available as needed to maintain product schedules; support continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost, and customer service.

30% Safety: Champion safety processes, ergonomic efforts and creating an environment where all team members hold each other accountable for keeping their co-workers safe. Actively work to prevent/eliminate hazards that cause injury or illness.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Must have effective interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Must have demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including some weekend work as assigned.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Demonstrated skills of team building, conflict resolution, innovation and change within the workforce.

  • Effective communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills at multiple levels of employee and customer organizations.

  • GED or High School Diploma

  • 2 years in production or Manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree in Business or related field strongly preferred

  • 2 years of production/operations experience preferred

  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment

  • Bilingual skills

  • Supervisory experience

  • Previous experience with computerized timekeeping system (such as Kronos)

We are looking for a highly driven individual that will operate a blast process that cleans the poles. This position will also do other duties as assigned to support production. Additionally, you will… * Grind parts in small parts * Work from the direction of the supervisor to move pole shafts into the blast booth, and set up and operate the blasting operations * Express equipment, parts, or procedural problems to the lead person and the supervisor * Operate various pieces of equipment and machinery: overhead crane, blast booth, respirators, and handheld grinders * Work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors * Perform other duties as directed by leaders and management * Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures What it takes Required Qualifications * A thorough knowledge of blasting procedures and practices to ensure the quality of the product * The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions * The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment * Must be able to pass pulmonary function testing and wear a supplied air respirator for long periods * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills * At the end of 90 Calendar days the candidate must be able to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality and attendance as determined by Management.
