The Role: Sensus, a Xylem brand is seeking Intern Candidates with an Electrical or Computer Engineering background to join our Firmware team where the incumbent will develop and implement utility metering products involving complex RF communications, tooling, electronics, and software and embedded systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. Essential Duties/Principal

Responsibilities:
  • Interested in working with the development of micro-controller, DSP based or embedded systems

  • Interested in developing the building blocks for new core features and functionality for future products.

  • Desire to participate in the selection and development of suitable RF components and development tools.

  • Desire and ability to learn new tools, languages and design techniques.

  • A strong sense of ownership and drive

  • Passionate about embedded systems, circuit boards, PCB schematics/layouts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong customer focus

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • 0-2 years' experience with RF and/or analog and digital electronic/embedded design.

  • Some exposure to common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and frequency analyzers is also highly desired.

  • Solid understanding of analog and digital circuitry

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, orally with both local and remote sites

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards

  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Were the Lead Engineer for your last academic - technical project

  • Have exposure assisting with the development and testing/verifying of embedded systems

  • Have exposure assisting Quality Assurance and Marketing in investigating and analyzing defective product returned from customers.

  • Had exposure to a fast paced team environment where you have interfaced regularly with electrical, back-end software, mechanical and system test engineers on system level design development

As a member of the Water and Gas Firmware team, the person in this role will develop products involving complex RF communications, tooling, electronics, software, and embedded systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities: * Has experience developing 'C' code for micro-controller or DSP-based embedded systems, ideally in resource-limited situations (Power/ROM/RAM/MIPS) * Has experience writing PC-based programs and/or scripts for testing and data analysis * Has the desire and ability to learn new tools, languages, and design techniques * Has a strong sense of project ownership and drive * Is passionate about embedded systems, firmware, and electronic circuitry Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification: * Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent * Up to 2 years of experience with analog and digital electronic/embedded design * Strong "Customer First" focus * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Some hands-on experience with common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and frequency analyzers * Solid understanding of analog and digital circuitry * Ability to collaborate within a team of engineers from different domains in a fast-paced team environment to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards * Excellent testing and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to support quality assurance and support teams in investigating and analyzing product defects * Have some leadership experience (e.g. were the Lead Engineer for your Senior project) * Have implemented and debugged low-level drivers and communication protocols for hardware serial interfaces (e.g. SPI, I2C, RS232 and RS485) Physical Demands: (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
