The Firefighter/EMT is committed to prevention and suppression of fires aboard ships under construction, and production facilities within our complex. EMS response is a responsibility for the department at the Bath facility.
The individual will be expected to make routine tours/inspections on U.S. Navy vessels and units under construction, BIW manufacturing building, office spaces and buildings. The successful candidate will be capable of working in a energetic Industrial firefighting environment and following a standard firefighting command structure.
Shifts are 12 hours on, 12 hours off, with a 4 day on, 4 day off rotation. Knowledge of structural fire response operations, emergency medical care (Valid Maine EMS lic. required), and firefighting equipment inspections is required. Interior firefighting experience is required in order to enter the hiring process and initiate training.
A "Secret" clearance is required to complete the probationary period successfully. The background and "clearance" process is conducted by the BIW Industrial Security Department. Planned and unplanned overtime may be required as necessities arise. Resume and cover letter are recommended.
High School diploma or GED required
Maine or Pro-Board Firefighter Certification 1 & 2 required
Current and active member in a volunteer or career department required
Active and Valid State of Maine EMT-B license required
Previous interior Firefighting & Fire service experience required
Confined Space Rescue preferred
Technical Rope Rescue preferred
