The purpose of this job is to provide emergency services, including fire suppression, medical care, and mitigation to emergency and non-emergency events. Educates citizens on fire prevention practices. Maintains fire stations, apparatus, and equipment; operates apparatus and equipment in emergency environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
  • Monitors and maintains fire station, apparatus, and equipment.

  • Operates a variety of fire suppression and emergency medical equipment.

  • Participates in ongoing work-related training.

  • Responds to calls and mitigates emergencies and events.

  • Fosters public relations and educates the public on fire safety, prevention, and job duties.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Less than 1 year experience in fire service, medical-related, or related field.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Must successfully complete prescribed training to obtain Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license, and Firefighter I and II certification within probationary period.

  • Maintenance of licenses and certifications are requirements for continued employment.

  • Successfully complete Columbia, MO Fire Department Basic Recruit School training program.

  • Employees hired after October 1, 2019, are required to maintain a permanent residence within a fifty (50) mile radius of Fire Station 1, 201 Orr St., Columbia, Mo 65201 within eighteen (18) months of hire.

You must be 21 years old by Monday, July 15, 2024, to be considered for this position.

Anticipated panel interviews: July 29-August 2, 2024

Anticipated physical agility testing: August 3-4, 2024
