Job Summary & Qualifications:

The Bridgeport Fire Civil Service Commission will be accepting applications to establish a certified list from which future vacancies on the Bridgeport Fire Department will be filled. The requirements for all applicants are as follows: must be not less than 18 years of age on the date on which he/she applies; must have a high school diploma or GED; must be a citizen of the U.S; must have a valid motor vehicle's operator's license; must successfully complete and pass various mandatory examinations; must be able to pass a physical ability test

(details of the test to include date, time and location will be distributed to applicants after the application period closes). Candidates possessing an IAFF/IAFC certified CPAT card/certificate valid within the last twelve months will not be required to take the Physical Ability Test portion of the testing process. Additionally, applicants must possess prior to or be willing to obtain the following certifications within the timeframe required: Firefighter I, EMT, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Hazmat (Operations Level), and Paramedic.

Firefighters work a 24-48 schedule (24 hours on, 48 hours off) and operate out of 2 stations. Starting salary will be based on current certifications held at the time of hire (non-certified, certified Firefighter, certified EMT, certified Paramedic). Full-time employees of the City are entitled to a generous fringe benefit package.
