Fire System Assistant

Shared Services: Risk Management (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

Job Summary: The Fire Systems Assistant assists in maintaining fire alarm and fire sprinkler device inventory with location information.

Assists with scheduled preventive maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs of fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and related peripheral systems. Documents, maintains, and communicates device failures during inspections and repair activity to the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) office, affected departments as needed. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required.

Associate's Degree in a technical area preferred. Minimum one year experience with inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including NFPA 25 and 72; basic knowledge of circuitry in low voltage systems.

Able to work with hand tools, handle fire equipment, operate fire protection systems.

Able to proficiently use safety equipment and instruments. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.

Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Valid Driver's License required at time of hire.
