About this Position The Fire Sprinkler Technician oversees all aspects of the various fire sprinkler systems of Capitol Campus, and other Department of Enterprise Services owned facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring the proper installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repairs of all fire sprinkler systems. This includes documentation for code compliance, reporting to a third-party compliance OFM 12-002 (1/9/17) WGS Position Description Page 2 verification program, and maintaining a system for document retention as required by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

This program is critical for safeguarding lives, protecting property, and maintaining regulatory compliance. You will act as a liaison between property managers, contractors, field engineers, fire departments, local municipalities and others during project coordination and routine maintenance work. You will be the primary contact for Fire Sprinkler vendors, Engineering and Architectural services, consultants, and others.

The Maintenance Mechanic 3 is the lead technician for all Fire Sprinkler systems. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and addressing any issues or malfunctions with Fire Sprinkler systems promptly to minimize downtime and ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. The incumbent in this role will provide training to staff members on how to operate and maintain the fire sprinkler systems, as well as educating them on fire safety procedures.

Some of the responsibilities include developing and implementing emergency response plans in case of sprinkler actuation, equipment malfunction, or damage. You will provide risk assessments to identify potential issues with code compliance, proactive equipment maintenance, and fire hazards. About the Division The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and DES-managed building operations, stewardship, and historic preservation.

B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates, and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 27 buildings, 18 public monuments, four state parks, over 6,000 parking stalls, and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Administrative, Maintenance and Repairs, Parking Services, and Support Services Custodial.

Learn about our agency and the key services we provide and the benefits of working for DES Some of what you will be doing Ensure all fire sprinkler systems are properly functioning, and remain compliant with NFPA, IBC, IFC, local codes and regulations for inspection, testing, and maintenance Develop and maintain detailed testing and inspection schedules Oversee vendor installation and alteration of fire sprinkler systems Ensure installations are completed to the Campus standard and follow code regarding layout and materials used Implement and administer procedures to complete code required inspection, testing and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems.

Perform urgent and routine repairs as needed React to work orders submitted through WMC for any fire sprinkler related issue Complete PM's, Work Orders, and address emergent issues in a timely manner Add corrective action to all work orders and close when completed Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and code enforcement officials to ensure that fire sprinklers are designed and installed correctly according to NFPA 13, IBC, IFC and local Codes Ensure cost efficiency by evaluating needs of tenants, working with designers to optimize designs to reduce unnecessary complexity, integrate existing infrastructure when allowed, and consider all lifecycle cost factors Provide cost estimates for tenant improvement projects Prepare detailed project specifications and solicit bids if necessary Evaluate proposals based on materials, cost, experience, code compliance, and projected timeline Provide technical assistance/advice and instructs personnel from other agencies and the public Review plans for new projects on campus to ensure the contractor/vendor are adhering to current building codes and campus standards Review and revise the Campus Standard for Fire Suppression. Ensure proper reporting of inspection, testing and maintenance to appropriate parties. Maintain all applicable reports, plans, recommendations, and documentation regarding fire suppression systems across DES owned properties Prepare and maintain test reports, plans, and recommendations per all applicable building codes Required Qualifications Washington State Fire Marshal Level ITT Certificate of Competency OR NICET II Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Sprinkler Systems OR American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) 15010 Field Technician Certificate OR Washington State Fire Marshal Journey Level Status as a Fire Sprinkler Fitter AND One (1) year experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work AND Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Competencies:

Preferred/Desired Qualifications Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 25, and 101 Possess a valid Washington Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT) license Ability to read and interpret fire sprinkler plans and blueprints Basic Computer Skills including Microsoft Office Suite Experience with 'Brycer Compliance Engine' reporting software Experience with clean agent fire suppression systems Special Requirements Must have valid driver's license free from serious traffic violations Must be willing to perform and pass a background check prior to employment Working Conditions: Work Setting: This position works indoors but may be required to perform occasional work outside in inclement weather as well as some confined space environments Schedule: 40 hours per week | Flexible schedule approved by management Travel Requirements:

This means that this position may be required to report to work to support any emergency situations that affect DES owned properties.
