Environmental Health & Safety
Summary of Job Duties:
Assist the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and Chemical Hygiene in maintaining campus compliance in fire safety and general safety compliance. This position is governed by government regulations and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Fire alarm systems maintenance, repair, and inspection.
Maintain and inspect fire alarms monitoring components.
Fire alarm systems response on and off duty hours.
Fire alarm initiation devices inspections, repair and maintenance - smoke/heat detectors, duct detectors, flow/tamper switches, etc.
Fire sprinkler and suppression systems maintenance, repair, and inspection.
Monthly/weekly fire pump churn tests.
Quarterly fire alarm flow device tests.
Emergency Response on and off duty hours.
Security alarm systems maintenance, repair, and inspection.
Maintain and inspect security alarm monitoring systems.
Maintain inspection records and regulatory agency documentation as required.
Maintain digital inventories of all systems and inspections.
Coordinate with vendors and contractors to obtain pricing and schedule repairs.
Supervise EHS Technician and monitor duties.
Misc trouble calls
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of operation, programming, maintenance, inspections, and repair of fire alarm systems and equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair fire alarm, mechanical or electrical problems.
Ability to test and monitor equipment functions.
Must have basic computer skills and some experience with MS Word, Excel, and/or Access.
Ability to perform routine building, emergency safety, and fire systems inspections.
Ability to use, operate, and maintain electrical tools, meters, and machinery.
Must be able to follow instructions.
Must be able to negotiate various types of terrain (such as slopes, steps, ditches, creek banks, brush and weedy areas, rocky and rough areas or muddy and/or wet areas).
Must be able to climb ladders and other access equipment to roofs and other areas to repair, inspect, and maintain building systems.
Must be able to load or unload a truck (weights varying at 60 lbs. or more).
Must be able to start, hold, use and operate hand tools and power equipment.
Required Education &/or Experience:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II certification.
Three years of specialized training in fire alarms systems, electronics or related field with at least two of the years maintaining fire alarms and or sprinkler systems.
Preferred Education &/or Experience:
NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level III certification.
4 years experience maintaining fire alarm systems.
1 year supervisory experience.
