Job Description:

The Applied Technology Department at SUNY Onondaga Community College seeks to hire an adjunct faculty for the Fire Protection Technology program.

The primary responsibility for the candidate will be teaching fire protection technology courses to a diverse range of students. The ideal candidate will have practical documented experience in one or more of the following: full-time firefighter with instructional experience in various aspects of fire service training, supervisor level administration of a multifaceted fire/emergency services organization, and/or fire protection system design.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Protection Engineering or closely related field (such as fire science or fire administration) with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the fire protection industry.

or

  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology or closely related field (such as fire science or fire administration) with a Professional Engineering license in Fire Protection Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience in the fire protection industry.

or

  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology or closely related field (such as fire science or fire administration) plus 10 years of relevant experience in the fire protection industry.

Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual in Spanish and English. English and another language will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, flexibility in instructional delivery, active professional development/life-long learning, curriculum development, service to college and community, and a commitment to working closely with students in small-class settings in a dynamic and diverse/multicultural college environment.

  • A demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level.

  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction.

  • Experience teaching and practical hands-on, design, or technology management experience in the application of fire protection technology.

  • Proficiency in oral and written communications with the ability to generate high-quality classroom materials.

  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work successfully in a culturally diverse college community.

Additional Information:

2023-2024 Adjunct faculty rate is $1371 per credit hour; 3-credit hour classes are $4,113. 2024-2025 rate is not yet available.
