The Fire Protection Engineer oversees all functions of the fire alarm systems process. These professionals work with different departments to see projects through. Fire Protection Engineers will maintain responsibilities as Technician of Record within jurisdictions where permits are applied for.
Essential Functions:
Perform walk-through with the Installation Supervisor and/or Installer at the start of new projects whenever required by Department Manager
Research building codes that apply to the Alarm Security industry
Research new products that pertain to the fire alarm industry
Work with Field Service Training Manager to coordinate the proper training of personnel in Service and Installation Departments
Resolve customer concerns in regards to fire code applications
Shall carry COR licensing as back up for acting COR to mitigate departure liabilities
Shall actively be responsible for code compliance of installation of fire alarm system wiring and equipment
Notify AHJ of the system out of compliance (out of service, in the test for 8 hours or more, out of agreement/contract)
Audit Acceptance process and provide corrective feedback to department manager for actions to be taken
Assist supervisors with auditing fire system installations and provide feedback on-site and/or digital media
Provide feedback on annual inspections per the systems process
Help achieve the Company goals with respect to required dollar amounts of installation and annual revenue
Execute and monitor timely, correct, and complete resolutions in the area of customer, Company, and employee contact, in whatever context or combination
Provide and maintain any/all licenses, permits, or technical qualifications that are or may be required by any governmental agency as part of that which is necessary to fulfill the duties of this position
Help meet and exceed the various productivity and budgetary goals of the Department
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of security and fire alarm systems
Extensive knowledge of electrical and fire codes
Background in protective signal wiring, servicing, and central operations
Knowledge of installation techniques and product restrictions also necessary
Strong understanding of central operations from a system standpoint
Thorough understanding of equipment, tools, policies, procedures, and strategies used in fire engineering
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong supervisory and leadership skills
Ability to read blueprints and building plans
Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
At least seven years of related experience required
State and Local Fire Licenses required
Minimum of NICET Level II certification
Background in protective signal wiring, servicing, and central operations
Knowledge of installation techniques and product restrictions also necessary
Strong understanding of central operations from a system standpoint
