POSITION: Fire Prevention Forester

STARTING DATE: Immediately. Resumes accepted until suitable candidate is selected.

The Davey Resource Group (DRG) is currently hiring arborists, foresters, fire safety specialist, fight fighters, trail maintenance workers, landscapers, horticulturalists, natural resource specialists, plant and outdoor enthusiasts to join our workforce. Permanent positions available. Temporary opportunities include flight to project area from anywhere in the US.

POSITION LOCATIONS: Santa Clara County. Company vehicle and paid commute

DUTIES:
Work with major gas/electric utility system and address its forestry needs
Inspect and assess the utility Rights of Way for vegetation requiring pruning or removal to reduce wildfire risk associated with overhead conductors
Identify tree and brush control work and enter data into hand-held computer
Notify landowners of impending fuel reduction and fuel modification work
Discuss and negotiate incompatible vegetation removals with landowners
Assess terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions
Coordinate with project managers, planners, and vegetation crews to maintain project schedule

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or four year degree in horticulture, forestry, urban forestry, environmental science or related discipline
Utility right of way vegetation management experience preferred
Ability to identify local tree species and knowledge of vegetative growth habit
Organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail
Ability to work and hike in rugged terrain and inclement weather
Clean DMV driving record, current drivers license, and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 Description Under direction, to act as the County Surveyor and to plan and supervise the activities and staff whose primary purpose is to review and approve maps to be filed under the requirements of State Land Surveyors Acts, Government Code, and Local Ordinances; to implement and maintain the Geographical Information System (GIS), and to perform land surveying. The County Surveyor manages the daily functions of the County Surveyor's Office within the Development Services Division of the Department of Planning and Development. The County Surveyor reports directly to the Principle Development Services Engineer. The County Surveyor's duties include managing and directing both field and office staff, approving maps and surveys, providing customer support to the public and professional land surveyors, providing professional land survey services related to the preservation of monuments, coordinating with other County Offices and Departments regarding County related survey work, and managing the budget of the County Surveyor's Office. The County Surveyor is responsible for developing and implementing programs and services, developing program policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with laws, rules, policies and procedures. Typical Tasks * Directs the review and approval of all Tract and Parcel maps, and Certificate of Corrections in the unincorporated area, and all records of survey maps and comer records in all cities and in the unincorporated area, prior to recordation, and the indexing and microfilming of filed maps; * Directs the Review and approval of annexation boundaries (cities and special districts) for the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), and the review and approval of all city conducted annexations, and prepares special district boundaries for the County. * Plans, assigns and directs the work of field and office surveying staff in conducting field surveys, and in the preparation and filings of records of survey, comer records, legal descriptions, and official maps of the lands of Santa Clara County. * Directs the implementation and maintenance of the GIS for Santa Clara County. * Assists in the preparation of the annual budget, works with and approves payments to various contractors for surveying and map reviews, and administers the Survey Monumentation Fund; * Supervises the maintenance of the County Surveyor records; * Directs surveying conditioning for land development projects; * Certifies monumentation for monument bond release; * Directs the interpretation and enforcement of the State Land Surveyors Act, Subdivision Map Act and local ordinances, communicates with private land surveyors regarding County policies, and serves as expert witness in court cases involving related issues; * Initiates and or prepares surveying related legislation and amendments; * Assists the general public and historians in locating desired survey information, and explaining and interpreting property descriptions and survey maps and data; * Coordinates with Federal and State agencies on geodetic control activities in the County; * Represents the County at various professional meetings and conferences; * Performs related work as required. Employment Standards Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and abilities. Possession of the qualifications required for "County Surveyor" by any applicable laws. Possession of certification and licensing as a "Land Surveyor" by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as described in the Professional Land Surveyors Act, Business and Professional Code, State of California. Knowledge of: * Engineering principles, practices and mathematics; * All phases of land surveying and map preparation including principals of geodetic control; * Construction methods and engineering specification preparation; * Aerial photogrammetry; * Laws and regulations pertaining to land surveying in the State of California; * Principles of employee supervision, training, and development; * Principles and practices of organization and administrative, fiscal and program management; * Community and agency consultation methods and procedures.
