Job Summary

The Fire Inspector I, under supervision, completes training to accurately learn and comprehend fire and life safety inspection procedures and assists EHS and Fire/Life Safety personnel in ensuring a safe environment for faculty, staff, and students by identifying unsafe conditions. Assists and learns the correct procedures for completing evacuation drills for campus facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Completes training and utilizes EHS requirements and procedures for completing fire and life safety inspections and assists in the performance of those inspections in campus buildings, residence halls and others. These duties may require operating a University vehicle.

• Conducts and/or coordinates tests/inspections of safety equipment such as fire detection/alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire rated doors, standpipe/sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, PIV's and fire extinguishers.

• May perform joint inspections with inspectors to ensure consistency and quality

• Assists in completing evacuation drills for campus facilities

• Completes training and utilizes the requirements to assist in developing emergency evacuation plans

• Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies on campus and assists emergency responders

• Participates on a rotational on-call program for after hour and weekend emergencies.

• Assists superiors with the coordination and communication with the campus community of upcoming inspections, walkthroughs, follow up reporting, etc.

• Assists Fire Inspector Supervisor with escorting fire service vendors.

• Provide excellent customer service via written and oral (verbal)

• Completes all task assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

• Two years of related experience.

Knowledge of

• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Interpersonal and communication skills. Planning and organizational skills.

Ability to

• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Licensing / Professional Certification

• Valid Drivers License

Supervision of Others
