ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Fire Department Support Division is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Equipment Technician. In this role, you will support suppression personnel in the maintenance and repair of a variety of safety equipment, including PPE and SCBA.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a team environment and can thrive in a paramilitary organization. The ability to grasp complex procedures quickly, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail is required in this position. During the first year of employment, the successful candidate will need to obtain the following certifications and maintain them throughout their career: certification referring to breathing air apparatus; completion of a technical program related to repair and maintenance of FF support equipment or life support equipment; PSI and PCI Cylinder Inspection Certification; NFPA 1851 Advanced Cleaning Inspection Certification; Nevada OSHA Standard 1910.132; Class B Driver's License with F Endorsement or higher; and Nevada Fire Instructor I and II Certifications.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND one of the following:

1.Two (2) years of full-time experience repairing and maintaining fire fighting support equipment, life support equipment, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, and/or small equipment andtools;

2.Three (3) years of full-time firefighting experience.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work in adverse environmental conditions.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license. Must possess and maintain the following certification(s) and/or license(s) within one (1) year of date of employment:

Certification referring to breathing air apparatus currently in service at the Clark County Fire Department;

Completion of a technical program related to repair and maintenance of fire fighting support equipment or life support equipment;

PSI and PCI Cylinder Inspector Certification;

NFPA 1851 Advanced Cleaning Inspection Certification;

Nevada OSHA standard 1910.132;

Class B Driver's License with F Endorsement or higher;

Nevada Fire Instructor I and II Certifications.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Note: It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Maintains, repairs, rebuilds and troubleshoots self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and oxygen regulators, air sampling of breathing air compressors mobile and fixed. Evaluates wear and obsolescence of parts and determines if replacement is required for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Inspect and evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance to Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and State and local regulations, NFPA Standards, NIOSH, ANSI Standards and CFRs.

Rebuilds safety and flow test valves used on compressed air cylinders. Troubleshoots and repairs personal safety motion alarms. Installs high pressure tubing for air lines.

Performs hydrostatic testing on breathing air bottles and repairs to DOT standards. Fits breathing air equipment and personal protective ensembles for departmental personnel and trains them in new and existing methods of using the equipment. Reads and interprets sketches and schematic drawings.

Observes safe work methods and utilizes safety equipment related to the work. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and or directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains accurate records of work performed to governing agency standards. Drives a County motor vehicle in order to pick up supplies, repair equipment and to drive to emergency incident scenes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop, warehouse or related maintenance setting, including operating typical test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
