The Fire Data & Strategic Analyst is devoted to providing development and implementation of technology-based solutions, focusing on business process improvement, business requirements definition and business systems design. Work involves collecting, analyzing and interpreting business process information to identify the scope and impact of business problems. Additional duties include documenting process workflow, writing projects that define strategy, resources and timeframes, facilitating team meetings, identifying problems and determining strategic solutions, either technological, business process or staffing related, facilitating implementation of business and/or technology solutions including acceptance testing process, and extracting business data from systems and prepare reports and presentations.

  • Updating and coordinating the departmental business plan and annual report

  • Managing and coordinating all departmental policies and procedures

  • Compiling and collaboration of departmental performance measures and benchmarking data

  • Creation of predictive mapping through GIS and other tools to plan for new fire station locations

  • Serving as departmental liaison to City Planning for Fire review of annexation and rezoning cases

  • Serving as departmental liaison to Construction Management for Fire construction projects

  • Developing and coordinating short and long range departmental strategic plans

  • Attending and presenting at City Council meetings, which may require after-hours participation

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in information technology or related field and one year of business systems analysis experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation

  • Public speaking to deliver presentations and answer questions at public meetings and events, such as City Council, on behalf of the department.

  • Developing and maintaining business process documentation

  • Providing analysis of processes and systems and defining business requirements

  • Prioritizing and managing processes and project activities

  • Gathering data, analyzing findings and applying logic and reason

  • Researching industry trends, solutions and best practices

  • Interpreting, monitoring and reporting data and statistics

  • Authoring and preparing original reports, technical documents and resource materials

  • Organizing and maintaining documentation, data, records and files

  • Coordinating deadlines and prioritizing competing demands

  • Developing and providing training and supporting education materials

  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards

  • Providing customer service

  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
