The Fire CAD User Technology Specialists provide direct support of the hardware, operating system and software related to the mission critical Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and its sub-systems. The position works as a member of the CAD System's Support Team under the direction of the Fire CAD System Administrator (Senior IT System Specialist). The team is responsible for support of the 24/7 Fire Department CAD system and integration to CAD mobile data terminals (MDTs), emergency response alerting systems, and other auxiliary systems. The User Technology Specialist will assist with system administration and configuration of the CAD system, along with analyzing, diagnosing, and fixing issues as they arise with the CAD system and its peripheral systems. They will provide first and second level support to CAD system users including the member dispatch agencies and the 29 jurisdictions serviced by them.

Responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Daily support of 24/7 mission critical CAD software, including identifying, analyzing, and resolving application problems quickly while minimizing user impact and downtime.

  • Integrally participating in Fire CAD Modernization Project (in progress) through learning, configuring, testing, and supporting next generation CAD software.

  • Learning and maintaining a complete understanding of the CAD functionality and dispatch policy management techniques, including emergency response dispatch protocols for various Fire Agencies.

  • Utilizing database queries, batch processes, and scripting to extract and modify database information.

  • Working closely with other Technical Services team members, including networking and server teams, on software and/or hardware projects that modify and/or enhance the CAD system or any of its subsystems, and to diagnose, troubleshoot, and test issues.

  • Working with contracted hardware maintenance vendors, when applicable, to resolve and fix any hardware related issues.

  • Assisting in writing documentation, both for technical users and end users.

  • Providing off-hours backup support for CAD Support staff when requested.

This position is from Monday through Friday and may work more than forty (40) hours to perform assigned duties, which can include weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and/or holidays. Employees do not have a hybrid/teleworking option due to the nature of Fire Department operations.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Conceptual or working knowledge of servers, storage, and/or networking concepts.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

SALARY

Pay Range: $29.58 to $48.19 per hour.

Hiring Range: $29.58 to $41.63 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in systems applications analysis, programming or telecommunications functions utilizing a variety of hardware and software.

  • and course work including training or experience with one or more work station computers and one or more programming languages and one or more operating systems.

  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • One year of experience using scripting, batch processes or database queries.

  • One year of experience configuring or testing software.

  • One year of experience interfacing with software end users.

  • One year of experience creating documentation for end users or technical staff.

  • Experience working with CAD systems.

  • Experience working with public safety agencies.
