POSITION SUMMARY:

The Financial Reporting Manager assists the Controller in ensuring that financial transactions are recorded and reported in accordance with GAAP and Foundation policies and procedures. This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD, and requires 2-3 days per week in the Bethesda office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support accounting operations by serving as a back-up to the Assistant Controller.

  • Assist the Controller with researching and documenting new accounting pronouncements and their impact to the Foundation's financial statements and operations. Assist with providing guidance on implementation considerations like new processes or coordination with other departments needed.

  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders to help evaluate individual mission related investments for significant influence and other significant transaction activities to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and assist the Controller with recommendations for proper recordation.

  • Complete process mapping and key control identification and keep up-to-date and organize finance and accounting related policies, job aids, and process documentation.

  • Assist the Controller with the annual external audit process including audit readiness testing and the preparation of the audited financial statements including all required footnote disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

  • Assist the Controller and Director, Tax and Compliance with reviewing IRS Form 990 schedules, ensuring timely, and accurate completeness.

  • Prepare and analyze monthly trial balance and financial reports to help explain variances and ensure transactions are properly recorded. Prepare monthly summaries for the FP&A team, such as fixed asset and prepaid schedules.

  • Support the Controller in ensuring weekly liquidity needs are met.

  • Manage and review the work performed by the Junior Accountant.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum of 7-9 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.

  • In depth knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

  • Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and ERP systems such as Workday to manage financial data, streamline processes, and generate reports.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to document processes, interact with stakeholders, and collaborate with cross functional teams to achieve organizational goals.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage one direct report and to coordinate activities to ensure departmental goals are met.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Controller. Manages and reviews the work performed by the Junior Accountant.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.

  • Stationary position - frequently.

  • No heavy lifting required.

  • Minimal travel (e.g., 2x/yr.) to conferences and meetings, as necessary.
