We are currently seeking an Accountant for our financial reinsurance area. This role will be based in Houston, TX and will report to the Director & Actuary, Financial Reinsurance. The primary responsibilities are:

  • For the financial re transactions

  • Prepare the quarterly settlements

  • Prepare or review/approve the accounting entries for STAT and GAAP reporting

  • Prepare or review/approve journal vouchers and balance sheet account certifications;

  • Zero-base business processes, recommend, and implement continuous improvements;

  • Prepare all quarterly and annual deliverables to the reinsurers

  • Prepare Department of Insurance quarterly deliverables

  • Support the team during audits (internal and external)

  • For new transactions, work closely with our Office of Accounting Policies to determine the proper accounting

  • Prepare and maintain documentation according to AIG standards

  • Support any other task related to financial re transactions

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or in a similar field

  • Eight or more years of accounting experience including financial reporting;

  • Strong math aptitude and excellent analytical, problem solving and verbal / written communication skills;

  • Excellent technical skills including Excel and Access; Mainframe experience is a plus;

  • Attention to details, organization, and high level of accuracy are required skills;

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers;

  • Prior Statutory and GAAP financial reporting experience and CPA designation a plus;

  • Excellent team player.

The primary function is to identify and solicit prospects and current friends of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). * Manages a portfolio between 75 and 150 prospects with the capacity to give gifts of $25,000 over 5 years. * Works with the Vice President of Development to develop annual goals. The expectation will be that this position will solicit $750 - $1M per year with a mature portfolio. * Secures 100 face to face visits per year. * Collaborates with BCM clinical and research staff for substantive development content. * Actively practices moves management through the benefactor life cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. * Establishes relationships with donors who are prospects for estate and planned gifts. * Documents all donor related activities using Raiser's Edge donor system. * Assists in all cultivation and stewardship events that benefit BCM. * Actively works at events and engages donors at events. Required: * Bachelor's Degree in a related field * Minimum of one year of fundraising experience, preferably in a health care or academic environment. Preferred: Knowledge of trust and estate giving. Skills: * Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Must be comfortable with people of all ages and backgrounds. Must be equally comfortable with public speaking and one-on-one communication. * Demonstrated personal initiative, devotion to BCM mission and on-going personal education and development. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. * Ability to be a team player and display diplomacy/political savvy. * Ability to be entrusted with personal and confidential information and make ethical decisions. * Must reflect the values of BCM at all times, with particular emphasis on teamwork, collaboration, integrity, and honesty.
