Position Overview

The specialist role on the planning team is responsible for planning support, case consultation, and overall adoption of the financial planning process across the wealth management unit. This individual must possess strong analytical and technical skills, and a desire to grow their knowledge of financial planning. These skills must be combined with a unique ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with advisors and team members in a sales environment. This is an ideal position for any individual looking to start their career in financial planning and obtain their CFP designation. Through this position they will gain the experience, knowledge and support to become a Certified Financial Planner professional.

Business Objectives

Activities conducted will result in:

  • Continued growth of the financial planning process as a core client service model in the field

  • Superior advisor and client experience through on demand planning support and case consultation

  • Increased financial planning volume, fee revenue, AUA, and insurance product placement

  • More knowledgeable advisors capable of attracting and serving the planning needs of emerging wealth and mass affluent clients

  • Enhanced Partner exposure to WDR Advisors

  • Deeper advisor relations with home office

  • Personal growth into the more advanced planning roles and direct participation in the Plan Development Service

Primary Duties, Job Functions and Responsibilities

Planning Support and Case Consultation

Must possess the soft skills, experience and technical expertise to effectively consult with and support advisors on comprehensive financial planning creation, case analysis and delivery including:

  • Embrace the financial planning process, core competencies and standards ascribed to by the CFP board

  • Support the development of comprehensive financial plans directly with advisors and their associates

  • Provide team-focused support to a national field of independent advisors

  • Provide subject matter and planning software expertise in response to inbound calls and emails from the field

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with strong interpersonal skills

  • Coach advisors through client presentation strategies and best practices

Job Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Practical and technical software knowledge in eMoney is preferred

  • NASD Series 7, 66 (or 63 & 65) registrations, or obtain within 6 months

  • Licenses for life, health & disability insurance, or obtain within 6 months

  • 1-2 years of financial services experience and/or an undergraduate focus in personal financial planning is preferred
