This position is responsible for developing long-term goals and strategic objectives for an organization. Identifies, analyzes, and monitors issues that affect profitability, growth, and productivity. May also be responsible for recommending financial and non-financial strategic alternatives and developing and maintaining operational plans.

This position does not provide patient care.

Successful candidates for this position will have a hybrid skill set of Business, Accounting, Finance, and ITS.


  • Member of the Financial Planning team, provides insight and feedback to ensure our team is focused on what is most important and finding creative solutions to problems.

  • Supports our System Administrator for our planning system (SAP EPM 10.1 for the Microsoft Platform). Duties may include data loads from source systems, data validation and tie out, report design and build, and template augmentation.

  • Supports the University of Utah Health annual capital and operations planning cycle.

  • As needed provides financial support on pro forma analysis to help inform the financial impact of decisions. Could be for a piece of equipment, a renovation of existing space, new service, etc.

  • Works with budget owners to understand variances between budget and actual and helps to create action plans and remediation as needed.

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Performs a variety of tasks.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to communicate complex budget and financial transactions as well as act as an assistant to our System Administrator to keep our planning system relevant.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel, database systems, VBA, SQL, etc.

  • Strong critical thinking and analysis, with firm attention to detail and skill in synthesizing information in a concise manner

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in office software products

  • Strong analytical, database and spreadsheet skills

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills

  • Flexible, action-oriented team player

  • Ability to be self-motivated and engaged in the work.

  • Ability to communicate written and verbally.

  • Ability to effectively work with various populations from executives, senior leaders, management, and staff.

  • Ability to understand complex financial transactions and explain the impact of such transactions.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalency.

  • Two years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Previous experience in a corporate budget/planning function is helpful as well as previous experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in an academic health center.

Qualifications (Preferred)Preferred

  • Master's in Information Systems, Accounting, or Business Administration or currently enrolled in one of those programs.

Our Finance team is looking for a driven self-starter to help scale our FP&A team, plan for the future, and analyze the past. As a Financial Analyst, a Typical Day Might Include the Following: * Financial planning and budgeting – you will be primarily responsible for creating and updating financial forecasts. You will also work with leaders to identify and refine KPI's relevant to their operating units.
